Tearful, tender tale of a tortured soul
Lonely, epileptic, cast off by both husband and son (who turned out to be an ill-brought up druggie), unemployable Jessie Cates (Spacek) has had it and wants to end it all. She is trapped in a boring, endless domestic-bound existence with her titular widowed mother, Thelma (Bancroft), whose own life was probably not much happier and both of whom have next to nothing to show for their lives (ala Million Dollar Baby). plotline pairing up two of America's greatest actresses who, along with
the small amounts of acoustic and other string music, do justice to this
play-based drama. Really looking forward to it finally being domestically
disced w/American packaging and credits.
