As a Bostonian, and as one who personally knew many of the characters and facts involved in this movie, I have the following unbiassed review. First, some advice to movie producers...PLEASE do not try to fake a Boston Accent. Not everyone sounds like a Kennedy. I was also a bit disappointed with the fact that it appeared it wasn't filmed in Boston at all. The best actor was Brian Dennehy, who, in my opinion, carried the whole cast, yet was nothing like the REAL Father Spagnolia (whom I've met). It was definitely Hollywooded up and markedly anti-Catholic. Ted Danson's acting was okay. I just feel as though Showtime (the producers of the film) capitalized on a great tragedy in God's Church. What Cardinal Law and the Priests did was deplorable. I like the fact that they distinguished between homosexuality and pedophilia (two entirely different things all together...the first is an orientation, the latter a sickness). It was done by outsiders and did not accurately convey the emotions and impact this had not only on the church, but on Boston and the people of Massachusetts. Was this review helpful?
