    Lessons Learned

I have always been a fan of Kevin Kline and this film demonstrates his great dramatic skill. The conflict he goes through when he realizes he bent the rules for his student and his student still cheats to win is well done acting. The film shows the reality of life's unfairness, when after dedicating himself to his school, his work and the students, he is passed over as headmaster. An excellent job of teaching morals and true character. At the end of the film, when he tells his student he cheated him out of his chance to get to the finals and the realization by the student as an adult with children of his own, that while it might have made a difference in his life, he knows that when all is said, he made his life without being Mr. Ceasar. Mr. Bell's double standards came back to haunt him when he admitted albeit unknown to his own son, that he cheated and he would do anything to get what he wanted. The son's face -- his first dose of reality that his father wasn't perfect, was an excellent point, too. Outstanding acting, wonderful musical score. A film that everyone should see.
