Unfortunately, as a society, we have become used to "auto-tune" and "air-brush" and have lost the art of viewing a performance without these enhancements. I watched the live performance of The Sound of Music and am looking forward to adding the DVD to my collection. There is nothing like seeing a performance live, and for those of us who don't have access to theater, live television theater is the next best thing. I was very excited to see a contemporary performance of such a classic work; I loved it. I thought that the singing was well above average, and the casting was inventive. Will most definitely purchase the DVD and watch it many more times (but then, it won't be live, but recorded!! Sigh..)

I watched with my family (6 and 4-year olds) and we all loved it. We recorded it and have watched it many times since - buying the DVD now so we can open space on our DVR. I can't understand how people are complaining about Carrie Underwood's performance. I grew up in the theater (my mother is an actress) and thoroughly enjoyed this production, including her. I'm glad that NBC will do more live performances. There are also wonderful performances on PBS, but without mainstream star quality, those brilliant performances are often overlooked. Because Carrie Underwood was attached to this prgram, many people tuned in. Brava. She is a class act and did beautifully. I agree with a prior reviewer that casting was inventive. Watch it with an open mind and heart - it is well worth it.
