The movie is saved by the alternate endings.
For thost that don't know, this flick was shot on 3 different times because the ending was laughed at by test audiences. The movie itself is a good sci-fi flick with an atmospheric feel to it about a girl who disappeared 30 years ago under mysterious circumstances. An American family looking for a place to rent, finds this one, fully furnished, & beautiful woods. Jan (Johnson) is the oldest girl who looks like Karen, the landlady's girl who wnet away 30 years ago. After some clue finding, she reunites the 3 with Karen then, they redo the initiation ceremony they did in the chapel when she went away. She finds several odds clues, the solar eclipse, Karen's image in mirrors, & blue lights in the woods. It stars Bette Davis as Karen's mom, Mrs. Ayllwood. The 1st of 2 alternate endings features an alien who takes Jan away, then Karen & Jan reappear together on Earth. Jans says Karen was frozen in time & space. The 2nd ending shows the same alien, but shows the spaceship where the alien is, Jan rescues Karen, & they go back to Earth together. The current ending shows Ellie (Jan's younger sister) talking in a strange voice while they do the ceremony, 2 lights appear, then it goes black for a bit in the chapel & Karen shows up just Mrs. Ayllwood arrives. Was this review helpful?
