I Also Recommend:

    Excellent old-style cartoons!

Tom and Jerry is in general one of the best of all cartoon series. It's similar in many ways to Looney Toons (especially Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote), but different also. It's "silent", in that there's little or no dialogue. Tom and Jerry almost never speak. However, they scream a lot, usually in pain but sometimes in fear. There's also a lot of good music (much of it classic or from other MGM movies) and excellent sound effects. You moderns who grew up on Itchy and Scratchy should watch Tom and Jerry; they were the inspiration for Itchy and Scratchy (the main difference is the violence is toony rather than graphic/bloody).
Cat chases mouse. It sounds formulaic, and it is--osrt of. There's several variations and additions--a second mouse or a bird or a duck or a bulldog (he's almost the third main character, he shows up so much). On occasion Tom and Jerry will be friends for a while (I think they actually like each other underneath). Sometimes Jerry takes advantage of the situation (need for quiet, can't break anything, etc.). Whatever the premise, it's fun to watch. Buy it end enjoy it. Then get Volumes Two and Three and enjoy them, too.

I hated when they were friends

This was by far my favorite cartoon as a tot. However, I could not STAND the episodes when they were 'friends'. It made me very uneasy and distrustful of the world.

My favorite episodes were when Tom (however fleetingly) had the upper hand. THOMAS!!!
