Very Accurate Account of the Pearl Harbor Attack

I bought Tora, Tora, Tora because I had seen it a number of years ago on VHS. Being a history major, I was impressed with the historical detail of the movie. The movie also goes into the "back story" on the Japanese side and show how the attack was planned and why it was deemed necessary by the Japanese. It also shows how the US government was almost sleeping through world events, while ignoring the concerns those people who were paying attention to what was going on. Also covered is the fact that Washington had detailed intelligence on Japanese plans, but would not release all of the information to their theater commanders (Admiral Kimmell and General Short). This forced them to guess their best course of action, and they guessed wrong. I was also impressed with the fact that the Japanese actors in the movie actually speak Japanese (not English) as in other WWII movies. This is a movie well worth adding to the collection of any WWII or history buff.

    The Classic Pearl Harbor Movie

This outstanding American and Japanese film is quite possibly the finest audio-visual narrative of the Pearl Harbor attack. It is historically accurate (save a few minor details), well presented and very exciting. For strategy devotees, this is a must see.

    Holds up extremely well

The more recent Pearl Harbor went for the James Cameron formula in Titanic, in which an immediate & personal story plays out in the foreground while the historical event is the backdrop. This film was made almost in a documentary style and great care was taken to present a balanced view. This film better explains, as well as a movie can, the forces that drove the Pearl Harbor attack as well as why the United States was caught so unprepared. Great visuals and action complement the story.

the second greatest pearl harbor movie off all time!

It is a great movie. The title is the neatest part. Tora means tiger in japenesse. That was the attack call for the japanesse fighter planes.

An absolute "must have" if you are a WWII buff. It is

An absolute "must have" if you are a WWII buff. It is still the most informative and accurate movie about Pearl Harbor and it has stood the test of time. The BluRay transfer is very good. Extras are also worth noting. I have watched it many times and I enjoy it every time I watch it. GREAT cast.
