    I Also Recommend:

    Jeremy Brett: The Quintessential Holmes

Preserved on DVD, this boxed set gathers the entire 1984-1994 run of Granada Television's production of "Sherlock Holmes," starring Jeremy Brett as the great detective, with David Burke and Edward Hardwicke as his friend and colleague Dr. Watson.

Filled with brilliant, pitch-perfect portrayals of the Holmes and Watson (with Watson finally realized as the competent, intelligent medical man that he was, and not the doddering clown played by Nigel Bruce in the old Basil Rathbone films), impressive recreations of Victorian England, and stories that provide some of the most faithful adaptations of Arthur Conan Doyle's stories and novels, this collection is a must-own for any Holmes fan. Brett's deliciously eccentric performance is something to be savored again and again.

The set loses one star because of MPI's typically dreadful subtitles. The same problem plagued their otherwise excellent release of the 1988 "War and Remembrance" miniseries.

    Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes

Jeremy Brett has long been my favorite Sherlock Holmes. Having bought and watched the entire television series now has been extremely entertaining! I wish that Jeremy could have lived longer to have made more Sherlock Holmes, as he portrayed the great detective impeccably.

    Witty, Sylish and well-acted

I enjoyed this Sherlock Holmes Collection. Jeremy Brett is a very witty, stylish Sherlock Holmes. Victorian London is beautifully presented. the mysteries are very properly mysterious!
