    One of my favourite movies

Velvet Goldmine is a beautiful film that does glitter justice. The characters are portrayed convincingly, the costuming is superb, and the music is, of course, fantastic. If you like glitter rock and all that goes with it, this will be a great film for you.

For Anyone Interested in that era now referred to as Glitter Rock....

...You will find this movie fascinating. With it's most likely accurate depiction of that time in the history of Rock (or as known as 'Glitter Rock'). The lead character, Brian Slade, appeared to be modeled at least initially, after David Bowie, who if I'm not mistaken, at one point predicted his own on stage assassination. Fortunately, that never happened, or was never done theatrically, as in this movie. If you like movies that make you think afterwards, this is for you. Ewan MacGregor's moves reminded me of Iggy Pop. Yet, there are scenes that make you wonder if it is a combination of everyone from Bowie, (the American Wife) brilliantly played by Toni Collette, to Lou Reed/Iggy Pop, to the late Marc Bolan. Even the reinventions of some of the characters remind you of everyone from Bowie and Iggy Pop, to Madonna. An amazing portrait of a time that most of us are too young to have really witnessed, but created some wonderful music. Last of all, wanted to make sure to mention the amazing cast...truly worth viewing, if a modern music fan. (yes, those car commercials, use a lot of T-Rex songs...since most aren't familiar with the originals: Jeepster, 20th Century Boy, etc.)

The costumes alone are worth it!

So one of my favorite actresses Toni Collette dresses like Jennifer French in AbFab through this movie- the glam rock costuming is ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS as the setting for this outrageous, touching, stirring and definitely different coming of age movie told in retrospective. Christian Bale and Ewan MacGregor are great- be prepared this has a strong gay theme with full frontal nudity so do not watch if this offends you.

A magical, beautiful commentary on music, the Glam Rock period, and the human desire to reach higher than the norms

Velvet Goldmine is among my top three favorite films of all time. There is something so magical about the film that draws me back to watch it again and again without tiring of it. Incredible performances by all stars and costars, and the cinematography is so captivating and excellent, you feel as if you are part of the characters' dreams and realities. If there is any film that has inspired me in my music and writing the most, it is definitely this one.
