    Chest-beating patriotic propoganda

Wooden acting, terrible editing, an absurd climax. THIS IS NOT A FIVE STAR FILM. Upon reading the other reviews on this movie, I felt the need to put in my lonely two cents. This is a film that intentionally pulls at our rah-rah heartstrings and was made to make us proud to be Americans. It never bothers to mention that our reasons for being in Vietnam were completely wrong-headed. And that all of those lost in our nation's greatest military blunder, next to the war in Iraq, didn't have to die on those battlefields in the first place. This is a film for those who still refuse to admit that Vietnam was a stain on our nation's great history and should've never happened. It's a candy-coated ode to the red-white-and-blue that tastes sweet going down if you try not to think about what it's doing to your body. There have been many outstanding films made on this war, but a big star, a big budget, and swelling score do not a classic make. If you like your history without all that abiguity and a happy ending, by all means buy this film. If you are more concerned the real effects this war had on our nation and our soliders, pick up Platoon, The Deer Hunter, or Coming Home instead.
