The latest Dark novel is a superb entry that can stand by itself

Carpathian Nicolas De La Cruz has come home to report bad news to his prince. However, he also plans to commit suicide ending his centuries of loneliness.-------------- Lara Calladine has finally escaped the ice prison of her abusive father and even eviler grandfather. A half-breed she spent her childhood tortured by the pair in odious experiments to understand the dilution of her dragonkeeper bloodline with human DNA. She knows they are coming for her although that might be the nightmares that frighten her. When she and Nicholas meet, Lara knows she has found her soulmate so has Nicholas, but trust of another person is something she has learned first hand to never do. Still the time to confront her nightmares is now as she has a persistent champion demanding to be at her side.----------------- The latest Dark novel is a superb entry that can stand by itself as a powerful romantic fantasy yet also augments the super saga plot. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action both trademarks of Christine Feehan. Lara makes the tale excellent as a unique individual who has suffered torment and torture her entire life. Nicholas realizes rather quickly that he has her love, but gaining her trust seems impossible even as he risks his life to help her. Ms. Feehan provides a terrific thriller to the delight of the Carpathian crowd.--------------- Harriet Klausner

Good, but starting to veer away from what has made the series so good.

There were many parts of this book I enjoyed. Yet this book and the one before have elements I can do without. I realize the Carpathians are of the earth, but the cave scenes with the women were boring. I just couldn't handle the chanting earth worship scenes. Plus, Feehan has added more environmental issues in Dark Celebration and Dark Curse that are just hard to take. It seems out of place, even for Carpathians, as if she is pushing an agenda. So much for escapism in a book.

I enjoyed the story of Lara and Nicolas.. Plus there were scenes between old characters that were funny and enjoyable.

    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

    Dark Curse

Dark Curse was an absolute essential novel to read if you want to know more about another important lifemate pair,Lara and Nicholas,It is also essential because Lara figures out what is causing the Carpathian females to miscarry or lose their children it is a microbe,a bacteria.Unlike the past Dark Carpathian novels i have read and thoroughly enjoyed I found this one different then the others,Much more heavier and even though it kind of put me off,It was a given as the storyline reflects on Lara's dark and tortured path, she finds Nicholas and they both bring light to each other.Overall a sweet romance with blush worthy love scenes

    I Also Recommend:

    I couldn't believe I was reading this...

I picked this book up thinking it was a sci-fi thriller, and found out it was a sci-fi romance novel. To my surprise I was not disgusted and in fact I couldn't put the book down. The action in the book starts on page one and keeps moving to the last page. There are some steamy love scenes that made me blush and that's a hard thing to do. The writing is excellent. I have even gone back to look for the other books in the "Dark Series." I would definitely recommend this author to those of you who are not really into romance but you are into sci-fi, it is a good book, not corny or overly done.

Couldn't wait for it to come out, but left me hanging

Like everyone that reads the 'Dark Series' I couldn't wait for 9-02-08 to come around so that I could read the next installment. I was overall happy with the book, I thought the commercials were way off and did not do the characters justice (actors were not the idea of carpathian) also I thought the book ending just stopped and should have had a build up for the next book instead of leaving it so abrupt. Overall though I thought that it built up other characters, opened other routes she could take this series and I am excited for the next book. Again this is a great series!
