Faith Got A Lot To Do With It
In that I am fascinated by African American history, a book that tells the story of the Jubilee Singers' contributions to American music caught my attention. However, the book does not live up to expectations. Gospel music is a testimony of faith and will take you through unspeakable evil such as what was inflicted upon African Americans. Although the text was well researched, the methodological descriptions of torture, maimings and an over abundant use of the 'N' word, seemed insensitive and unnecessary. Was this review helpful? Jubilee Singers...An Introduction to American History
Dark Midnight When I Rise is an excellent tool for classroom purposes and self gratification. Andrew Ward, I feel has ignited a flame that others will pursue. Currently I am a Jubilee Singer and do fill honored of such a remarkable dedicatory to my ancestor. Being a Jubilee Singers is a privilege and honor that I shall uphold and take with me to my grave. I applaud Ward for dedicating his time and keen sense for history to Fisk University and the Fisk Jubilee Singers. JOB WELL DONE!!!!!!Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. A wonderful tribute
I first became fascinated with the story of the Jubilee Singers by reading an award-winning children's book, A Band of Angels. Dark Midnight when I Rise is a wonderful complement to it for adults who want to know more. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
