    Great Read!!

After finishing it last night I immediately knew thaat this review just couldn't wait.

This book was AH-MAZE-ING!!!! Ugh, I couldn't stop reading it! Taryn created such a well put together book and vividly created each scene that you knew exactly where they were at the time, what it looked like, the smell, temperature, etc. I loved how it switched to Kai's point of view every now and then, giving his input and the deep down feelings he had. This book can't be put into words. I am seriously at a loss for words. All I can say is buy it, read it, and love it!! Sigh, ugh I keep typing then erase because no madder what I put it just can't seem to give the book enough credit. For sure on my favorite list!!
After I finished I was left giddy and only craving more. Please tell me there is going to be more!

Janie is such a kick butt chica (or sorry, seeker) and I loved her!! She is strong, funny, and lovable. Being a seeker it is her duty to slay the vampires and daychildren of her area. She has been in high school for eight years now and hasn't reached the age of eighteen yet. Seekers go through a cycle where they repeat 4 years at a time in order to continue their duty to hunt the vampires and daychildren. Daychildren are a vampire/demon hybrid that are far more dangerous and develop to be more of a threat.

The daychildren start breeding there own and cause havic for both the vampires, which are evolving only trying to fit in with the humans and maybe even be accepted, and also for Janie. Now they are getting brave, coming into Janie's territory and attacking high school students. And if Janie's life wasn't complicated day a daychild attacks star wrestler Matt and Janie saves him but thats not the complicated part. Sometimes if a Seeker saves the life of a human the human will Imprint on the seeker. Woah there!! sound familiar to all you twilight fans? Yupp but I gotta give credit to Taryn I love the way she switched it up and I loved it honestly it can't be even compared to Twilight so forgget I said anything. (Anyways) Kai and Janie join together to help fight the daychildren and put a stop to their devious plan.

Her mom Isabel was also a seeker and is always there for support, except when it comes to Kai. With the exception of her two friends from school, all she really has is her mentor, Abram, and her mother. Janie told herselfthat she would never get close to anyone so that she would never have to feel the pain of loss because of her father's death. She saw how bad it effected her mother and never wanted to experience it herself. That is until she meets Kai. Kai rubs her every wrong way at first. She can't sense when he is coming, which she is supposed to because he is a daychild, he holds many secrets, and he is infuriatingly stubborn. As time goes on she realizes he probably won't ever leave her alone and he can be trusted. An big shocker.....they fall in love!!! EEP!!!

I just love the romance between the two. They slowly but surely develop feelings that they are unsure about and finally just give in until....Bum..bum.....bummmmm... *Gasp* (Your going to have to read it to find out my reason behind this dramatization)

Kai...dear, sweet Kai. Ok so guess what? I got me a new fictional boyfriend to add to my list! Kai is a hot mystery. He is a daychild but why are his eyes green when they should be black? why does his heart beat when it should be dead? why can't Janie pick up on his scent? why does h

    A Great Read!

I really enjoyed this novel. Janie is a great character that, while a bit overbearing at times, really comes into herself and takes charge as the story progresses. She is a kick butt character that goes after the bad guys without a second thought, and I really enjoyed that about her. And Kai is to die for. In my opinion, he’s extremely dreamy, and I really liked all the mystery surrounding him. In fact, I didn’t see the truth about his identity coming until it was almost upon me, and I really enjoy novels that are able to not only keep me engaged, but guessing as well. While I admit that the romance was a little lacking in this novel between Janie and Kai, I found this “whirlwind romance” to be perfect for this novel, and I highly recommend it.

Likewise, I also really enjoyed that this story took place in a city I’m very familiar with. Noting where Janie and Kai go was fun as I was able to see it in my minds eye more vividly than in books where I’m not as familiar with the setting. If you’re familiar with Baltimore and enjoy strong heroines and dreamy heroes, then this book is for you.

    Enjoyable read

Dark Seeker was an intriguing story with a kick ass lead character. I liked the mythology in Dark Seeker it was an interesting twist on vampire stories. Janie and Kai’s relationship was interesting. I really enjoyed how they interacted with each other and how their feelings for each other increased throughout the story. I’d love to learn more about Kai’s history what we did learn about his history made me do a WTH?? HE DID WHAT??? I was shocked! I enjoyed Matt’s character, I’m a little upset with Janie on how she treated him but I’m sure she had her reasons and was just panicking. I’m excited to see where the next book takes the story and these 3 characters.

I loved, loved, LOVED this novel. I cannot wait to read more fro

I loved, loved, LOVED this novel. I cannot wait to read more from this series and i hope it never ends. This novel met all of my expectations. Taryn Browning is an amazing author and i will read anything by her from here on out. Dark Seeker has the perfect pacing for the story and the characters were amazing. Janie was an amazingly stubborn independent woman which i LOVE and i feel that independence is what everyone looks for in a female lead these days. I feel like Taryn knew exactly what her audience would want to happen and instead of just giving it to us she dangled it in front of our faces till the end. I recommend this to everyone who loves young adult paranormal and everyone who loves a good romance.

Janie Grey is a seeker, she hunts demons and vampires to rid her city of them. Janie is a kick-as fighter she has promised herself never to fall in love and along comes Kai and confuses her. This author has created a wonderful world for her story and I can not wait to read the next book in the Seeker series.

Captivating, I couldn't put it down.

This book was simply awesome. I love the story line and characters. I'm a sucker for the love triangle, but I love how you didn't make it all that complicated. I read the free eBook. Read2Review off Goodreads, and now I will probably buy the actually book. Taryn, you did an amazing job with the characters and making their personalities pop. Loved Kai, and Matt, but I'm still wondering..Is Luke gay or not.

Great YA Vampire book with a light love story

    I give this 4.5 stars.

This book has several well-developed characters. Jana, a seeker, is going through High School once again. Her main rule in life is to seek out the vampires and the daychildren (a demon/vampire)and destroy them. She is just going about her daily business when she meets Kai. What is he? It seems as though he is part of the daychildren...but is he? Is it possible for her to befriend her enemy? Along the way we get to meet a few of Jana's high school friends, a witch, a few vampires, daychildren, Jana's mom, and her father figure/trainer.

I loved this story. I loved that Jana really struggled with wanting to stick to seeking and avoiding all relationships, yet her heart was pulling her in the opposite direction. I like how the author gave us insight to past events in Kai's life as the story unfolded and I can't wait to read the pre-quel to this story to learn more about the events leading up to this story. I'm hoping to learn a little more about Kai and Albania's relationship. I love Albania's character and I hope to see more of her as the series unfolds.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good YA vampire book with a light love story. I am looking forward to Seeker #2.

    Dark Seeker By: Taryn Browning

This was a fun, quick read. Janie is a Seeker. Her job is to protect humanity from vampires, demons and a half breed called Daywalkers. While she is out she runs across Kai. He moves like a Daywalker and but he doesn't give off the same vibes as one. Slowly she gets to know him and finds that there are more human traits to him. As time passes Kai keeps coming out of nowhere and saving her life and soon they develop a friendship/partnership. Together the two of them learn more about a new threat on her town and need to stop it before more people are in danger.

Janie is a strong girl and a bit reckless. She has been training to be a seeker for the majority of her life and it is a job that she is very good at. I like that she was able to go beyond what she has always been told about Daywalkers and she was able to get to know Kai enough to see that they really were on the same side and appearances don't always make the man. Because of this trait she was able to gain more allies in her fight against the evil she needed to fight.

Kai was awesome. He was a great fighter with a dark past/secret that terrified him. He made sure that he was always available to help Janie and he worked hard at keeping her safe. I like that even though he wanted to protect her he also let her do things on her own.

Some of the other characters were great. There is a vampire named Tanya that I loved. At first you just see her as a pretty face to stand beside the vampire leader but she was funny and could kick but in heels. Her mom and her trainer were even pretty cool towards the end of the book.

This was a pretty good story and I have already recommended it to others to read. Even better is that this is only book one in the series, book two is scheduled to be released this year!

    Great start to a series!

Firstly, thankyou Taryn Browning for providing me with a copy for review! This has not affected my review in any way.

Janie is a Seeker, she has been trained to rid the streets of the undead and of super creepy vampire-demon halfbreeds called Daychildren. One night out Seeking, she is completely unprepared for what she would have to fight, until Kai comes along, saves her and finishes them off.

Okay, so first thing I have to clear up: Janie is not one of those "heroines" that are supposedly tough and kickass but actually don't do anything but whinge and moan to the guy about having to be rescued. This instance is a one off. Throughout the book, Kai (who I seriously have a crush on now) tries to protect her and warns her against the undead and Daychildren, this is sweet because the way he says it isn't all "You are a woman, you can't handle this", he is simply concerned but Janie still tells him to shove it and that she can handle it herself, which she can! Janie is a great character, Browning has developed her so well - she is tough, stubborn, has lost and never loved and she is actually very emotional. Underneath all of her tough exterior, Browning has written her in such a way that reflects that she is still a teenage girl going to highschool. Janie is easily one of my favourite characters in a novel, I probably wouldn't befriend her instantly though, because I'm scared of her (but shh).

And Kai. Oh, well I love him. Enough said. He is incredibly emotional, and the things that he has been through is so gut-wrenching and raw that you understand why is he so protective and you understand why he is the way he is. Anyway. Kai is hot, and sweet, and all-round awesome.

This also made me laugh so hard it parts, like, the ghetto gangsta vampires and Janie thinking of 'Bloods' and 'Crips'... HA! I laughed out loud with this because it put the best visual in my head - A vampire with a gangsta lean, a red bandana and ghetto jeans just casually strolling toward Janie, possibly listening to Lil John or Snoop Dogg on an iPod.

I think the only issue I had with this was the insta-love. I think that was my fault though, because the pacing was *so* fast (which was great by the way), I couldn't keep up with the timing in the novel and still thought it had been a few days until how long it had really been was mentioned at the end! So really, it wasn't insta-love, it was just me not being able to keep up haha!

Oh, and Browning's writing seriously pulls you in. For example,
"In a flash, his teeth sank into her neck. Muscle man held her firmly as the newbie bit even deeper into her vein" OUCH. Reading that actually made my freaking neck hurt. *shudders*

Ooooh, another note - I REALLY want to see more of Abram and Albania (wow, so many cool 'A' names).

Overall, Dark Seeker was original and refreshing and I'm pretty freaking eager to read Dark Beauty and whatever else Taryn Browning has to offer!

    Review from MajiBookshelf Blog

Dark Seeker is a book about Janie Grey, who has a duty of killing the undead. The reason why she also very much despises them, is that one of the undead's actions resulted in her own father's death. Janie is a very powerful character. I really enjoy reading about her because she is so strong, and doesn't trust anyone, and is very brave.

When Janie meets Kai, things start to shake up. Kai is a very interesting character with the typical bad boy aura. When Janie meets him, she is confused about what he is. He seems to be part of the undead, but also has human characteristics. The revealing of Kai made me hooked more as suspense evolved in the story.

Even though Janie promised herself to not fall in love, thats what is happening with Kai. Their relationship together is so lovely and exciting to read about. I loved how Taryn wrote every chapter with new exciting events that keeps you wanting to read more.

Dark Seeker is Taryn's debut novel, and I just want to give a big clap to her. Its such a great book that I loved, and I am looking forward to reading the second book of the Seeker series!

    Imaginative & Unique!

I¿m so glad Dark Seeker lived up to the hype! I remember seeing an average of 5 stars on goodreads a while back, and thought ¿Wow, seriously? No 4 stars? 3 even? All 5? Could it be THAT good?¿. And guess what? After reading Dark Seeker, it¿s safe to say that, it definitely deserves a full 5 stars from me!

I love books with fantastic characters, so I¿ll start with the characters first. Dark Seeker definitely has a cast of amazing and likeable characters! First off, we have Janie, our kick-as protagonist who is a Seeker and her job is to rid Baltimore of the undead.(i.e. vampires, Daychildren, demons). Every night, she goes around killing any creature that may be of harm to humans; and she does her job well. Seriously, the girl is awesome! She¿s confident, courageous and certainly stubborn as well! I loved how she would risk her life to save her friends, family and the town even if the possibility of succeeding is low; but she would never give up. Definitely an admirable character!

There¿s also Kai, who is a Daychild-turned-good, and wow, he¿s a swoon-worthy character! I loved everything about him; from his incredibly good looks, to his arrogance, constant sarcasm and also his witty remarks were all so amusing to me! He was also super protective of Janie, and would always be there to help her out or save her if she was in trouble.

Plus, there¿s also the delicious romance- Janie and Kai are perfect for each other! It was also the sort of forbidden romance that I love. There was sufficient spine-tingling romance for me to enjoy, but it wasn¿t excessive. I was so glad the story didn¿t lose its plot to focus largely on the romance; there was an exciting plot AND the sweet romance! But theone thing I was a bit wary of was the fact that Janie and Kai seemed to have fallen in love in a matter of days. I admit a lot happened in those few days, and the development didn¿t seem nor feel fast, but I guess I would¿ve liked the romance to have developed over a few months at least. But that¿s just me.

Another aspect I enjoyed about Dark Seeker was how the author managed to use vampire lore and make it into her own thing. We have vampires, demons and also Daychildren- who are vampires that can walk in sunlight and also possess demonic abilities. Then, there are the Seekers, who protects the human population and kills the vampires/demons/daychildren. But there¿s also Kai, who is one of the Daychildren but he has a human conscience, and instead of feeding off humans like his own kind, he helps kill the Daychildren. The whole world-building with all these different types of undead creatures really fascinated me!

Oh, and how could I forget? There¿s ACTION; and by action, I mean lots of heart-pounding action! My eyes were literally glued to my iPad (yes, I was reading this on my IPad) while reading the action and Janie-kicking-vampire¿s-butt scenes!

Dark Seeker is an original and action-packed adventure that will leave you kicking and screaming for the next installment! With endearing characters, a breathtaking romance, fabulous world-building and a spectacular storyline, Dark Seeker will surely impress readers! Please, please, PLEASE let me read the next book already!!

    An Incredible Debut!

Dark Seeker by Taryn Browning is an exciting, suspenseful and utterly addicting story. Folks, I simply could not put this one down.

I was just discussing with my friend how much I adore strong females. And Janie is practically the poster girl for the term. She's determined, intelligent, feisty and all-around fierce. Janie doesn't take crap from anyone and she doesn't let people push her around; she makes up her own mind and follows her own heart.

Browning had me completely on edge in regards to Kai. His storyline is full of mystery and I constantly found myself wondering about his heritage. I'll tell you this - it certainly isn't an answer you would suspect. I kept throwing around ideas in my head, but I never even got close. I just simply never suspected the true answer. She also keeps you guessing about the skeletons in his closet. I don't want to spoil anything for you guys, but I will tell you this - I LOVED Kai. I have found myself a new book boyfriend. He's endearing and sweet, yet tough at the same time. He's got a backbone, but he has a conscience too. And Janie and Kai together? Magic, my dears. Pure magic. The two are easily one of my favorite new young adult duos.

I thought the plotline was absolutely inspired. I love when authors show some creativity in the paranormal/urban fantasy storylines; especially ones that involve vampires. Sometimes I feel like the vampire horse has been beaten to death. Browning is somehow able to inject excitement, mystery and intrigue into YA's favorite species. Not only are the vampires in Dark Seeker unique, but the heroine, Janie is as well.

You see Janie is a seeker. She is sort of a Buffy type - it is her responsibility to kill the undead for good. What really caught my interest about Janie is her particular brand of morality. You see, she is technically mortal, but while she is acting as a seeker, she cannot age past 17. When her 18th birthday roles around she reverts back to 14; the age in which she began her duties as a seeker.

This presents a boat load of questions and storylines that I cannot wait to see Browning tackle. I have never run across something like this before. When we meet Janie, she has already gone through the cycle once and she is now 17 for the second time. Isn't that an interesting concept? It certainly adds an interesting dynamic to her character.

So, long story short, I adored Dark Seeker. Great storyline? check. Awesome heroine? Check. Swoon worthy love interest? Double check. Add a dose of excitement and intrigue and you've got yourself Dark Seeker. I cannot wait to get my mitts on the next book. There is going to be a next book right? Oh goodness. There had better be or Taryn Browning might be getting some persuasive emails.

excellent! you have to read this one!

This book was awesome. I just kept reading and reading and I just could not put it down! I was driving my husband crazy with all my reading. I loved the story and the characters. I think Janie is so inspiring in her bravery and she is a really strong young woman. It was really interesting to read about a seeker with cherokee inheritance but I would have loved to know a little bit more about that and why her age changes every fourth year. But other than that this story was very well written exiting to read.
Kai is a really interesting character. He is mysterious, cautious and really protective when he cares about someone. It is so cool to read about a demon-vampire hybrid. I love the relationship Kai and Janie develop and it gets even more interesting when an athlete at her school shows an interest in her as well. Janie´s and Kai´s relationship is intense and quite forbidden. This makes it all so much more complicated. And a good story is always complicated.
This book had an ending that doesn´t really need a follow up but I think there could be more to this story so I do hope there will be a sequel! This book was really amazing and you should really give it a try! You won´t be sorry I promise.

    Excellent Debut from Taryn Browning!

DARK SEEKER by Taryn Browning is a fun, fast-paced read with a whole new breed of vampires and one of the hottest guys to hit YA fiction.

I absolutely love the world Taryn Browning created. Seekers hunt vampires, but this isn't the sort of mythology you're used to. Browning added a whole new spin onto it, but I don't want to give anything away. Let's just say that her new breed of vampires will take the species to a new level. I also loved the way she incorporated Native American lore into the story, by relating it to the Seekers.

Speaking of our Seeker, the protagonist Janie is a great character who will be a fabulous role-model for teenagers. She's strong, spunky, and isn't afraid to say what's on her mind. She's also a great vampire hunter. Taryn Browning excels at writing fight scenes, and when Janie is battling vampires you'll feel like you're right there beside her, rooting her on to win. Janie doesn't do everything alone though -- her mom Isabelle and her mom's boyfriend Abram serve as excellent mentors throughout the book.

I saved the best for last .. KAI! I loved Kai. He is . well, I'm not going to give away what he is, because that would spoil the story for you, but he is HOT! However, it's not only his looks that make him appealing, but his personality as well. He and Janie have some fabulous witty banter, but you'll also get to see a deeper side of him when Taryn gives you a few glimpses of what's going on from his point of view. His love story with Janie is sweet, and will also leave you wanting more.

DARK SEEKER was a fantastic debut novel, and one that I highly recommend. I can't wait to read the rest of the SEEKER series to see what Browning has in store for us!
