I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.
This is a fantastic paranormal romance! I loved it!
Dr. Akila Marshall is a fantastic character. She is a vet with a soft heart. When she takes in an injured wolf, she doesn't realise what fate has in store for her.
Sable is a wolf shifter. He is a wonderful character. He is an alpha male through and through! He is loving, and exceedingly protective of his family. He has been looking for his sister, who had disappeared whilst investigating a case. His search lands him in the caring hands of Akila.
This is one short novella that I wish was a little bit longer! I was completely captured by the story, and hooked by the first page! I have read many shapeshifter romance books over the years, and I must admit that I'm a sucker for them! How they can change form and still manage to keep their human psyche intact is a mystery to me, but still, the idea enthralls me! Perhaps it's my primitive brain at work again!
This story is told from the points of view of both Akila and Sable. I loved this, because it enables the reader to get an idea of their thoughts and feelings. I was a bit surprised when I reached the end of the book, because it didn't take me too long to read it. However, there was a lot of action and danger in this 60 page book! Not to mention the HOT bedroom scene! I am now looking forward to reading book two in the series!
Dariel Raye has written a fantastic paranormal romance that is not only fast paced, but it flowed beautifully too!
I do not recommend this book to younger readers due to the explicit nature of some of the scenes. However, I highly recommend this book if you love paranormal romance or sexy shapeshifters! - Lynn Worton

I love this book!!
I love this book!! Akila is a Vet and runs a no kill shelter. She absolutely LOVES animals, and is absolutely heartbroken at the thought of something happening to them. So when a friend calls her to tell her that they found a Wolf that is scheduled to be put down the following morning she goes and gets him and takes him home with her. Little does she know he's not what she thinks he is.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
Sable was trying to find his sister when he was ambushed and shot with something that made him stay in his wolf form. He got away but now he is with Akila. He needs to get away and find his sister but he is drawn to Akila and cannot figure out why since she is a human.
I Loved this. I'm not always a fan of shifter books. There only a few Authors that can make me actually say I love this shifter book! Dariel Raye is one of them.. Sable has a real vulnerable side that makes him very endearing. I would definitely recommend this book and cannot wait to see what else may be in store in this series!

Akila Marshall is a veterinarian with a passion for animals. Born to rich parents who gave her everything but attention and love, animals became her friends and family. She is a woman who cannot turn her back on any animal in trouble and it is that devotion that changes her life. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. When she rescues a wolf in danger of being killed little does she know that this wolf is a shifter named Sable. Sable is looking for his twin sister Syreena who has disappeared and in that pursuit he is captured and drugged by Mr. Moore, a man set on experimenting with animals to strengthen the human race. He knows all about what Syreena and Sable are and he is determined to use them, but Sable gets away. Sable and Syreena have spent their lives being turned away from packs until it is discovered that they are Sentinels, wolves whose main purpose is being a guard to a pack. It is in this capacity and only in this capacity that they accepted at all.
Akila brings him home and falls in love with the wolf she calls Brutus aka Sable and he apparently feels the same. Can he reveal to her what he is? Will she accept him as both a wolf and a man?
This is a novella but it reads like a full novel, mystery, betrayal, love and romance. This is the first in the Sentinel's series and I can't wait for more. Although a short story it was very entertaining. Akila is a wonderful character and her devotion to animals is beautiful.

This short story had real potential for great depth of character. Sadly, the story was shortchanged by inserting unnecesary explicit intercourse. I know sex sells, but there are so many ways to bring sex into the story without going blow by blow. (Pun intended). I'm still giving it three stars in hopes for something better. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Dr. Akila Marshall has spent her life not believing love is in the cards for her. Instead, she has dedicated her life to saving the stray animals. Her veterinary practice certainly has helped her in her mission. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
Sable is trying to find his twin sister. A wolf shifter who is used to taking care of himself and his sister, it is hard to rely on someone else for help.
When a large wolf-like dog is brought into the shelter, Akila’s first instinct is to protect him. Taking him home to meet her furry family, Akila is surprised to find them as accepting at they are. The wolf/dog escapes and breaks Akila’s heart. The gorgeous man who shows up at her clinic the next day is enough to make her believe in love.
I couldn’t believe how much I loved this story. The characters come to life from page one. The story moves at rapid enough pace to keep the reader interested, but not so fast they can’t keep up. Dariel Raye has moved to this reader’s must buy list. This a paranormal romance I definitely recommend reading!

Quick, Easy & Fun Read
Over all, I liked it. It was a quick, easy read with romance and the paranormal. These things are always fun. I did have a few little problems with it, though. Mainly, Akila’s early motivation in bringing Brutus into her house and just letting him loose could have been clearer: how did she know this would be okay? She kind of says why later, but I would have liked to know earlier. It would have given me less of a “really, lady?” kind of moment. There were some behind the scenes events about local animals that Akila references that I would have liked to know more about why of later, since it does tie into the story. And I would have liked to have seen Sable be a little more take-charge and kick-ass. He had the size for it — your usual romantic hawt hero — so I would’ve liked to have seen it more, like in the ending, which happened kind of fast and did a drive-by of a couple other characters introduced late. (I’m hoping maybe that is a set-up for future books.) Yet, all that being said, I liked Akila a lot. As a woman who has to close her eyes or look away when she sees dead animals on the side of the road, I really liked her love for all animals and how their pain affected her. So the plot issues I had might have made me give this 3.5 stars, Akila sold me and made it a 4 star review. I’ll be keeping an eye out for future Dark Sentinels books. Was this review helpful?
