I love Lauraine Snelling's books because she puts herself and felling in her characters. She stops to think how would I feel in this situation. I have never read one of her books that I did not like.Jesselynn was angry at God because so many bad things had happened to her family yet she had times of reaching out to him. Her faith was a little weak but who of us in the same situation would have been much different. I have read some Civil War history and it was a very bad time especially for the South. I could hardly wait to read the next chapter and am waiting for the next book. I like historical Christian books very much...

Daughter of Twin Oaks was not the best book I have ever read, but it was okay. I really am becoming somewhat partial to war stories, especially those about the Civil War. When I picked the book up, I have to admit I wasn't expecting a masterpeice due to a bad experience with another Civil War novel that involved a female main character that dressed as a man. (Forgive me for being bias) However, as the story picked up I was pleasently surprised. The only problem I had with this book, apart from the usual plot issues, was that there were parts in it that didn't seemed to be explained. The author would say something, then never quite finish the thought or would jump ahead to something else. I don't know...it was weird. Other than that, it was a decent book. I would recomend it if you like war stories that don't focus too much on the war, but instead on how it affects the women left behind.

Nice book.  Historically accurate.  Well written.  Full of suspense and misery, love and joy.  Good job Snelling!  A lot of people said they were upset with the ending, but I appreciated how real-life this book was. Not happily ever after, although it should not have been so abrupt.  Read this book, you won't regret it.

    good read

I liked the story. Some parts did drag a little and it did seem like there was some things that could have been part of another book between the prologue and the first chapter but since this was the first in the series I don't think so. Also be prepared that the book just ends and leaves you hanging. I know there is a second one out already but unless you are ready to pay for it be prepared to wait to read it at the library or see if it comes to the free books list.
