    disappointed

I received this as a gift for my son who is 2.5 yrs old. Lovely illustrations, but it starts out, "Tell me why you're crying my son. I know you're frightened by everyone." Now, for someone with a sensitive child who is very aware of feelings, etc, this is not a good beginning. Regardless of the history of this song in the 60's etc, I really don't want bedtime reminding us of the world filled with "sorrow and woe."

    more from this reviewer

    Loved the song but...

I bought it for my 21 month old granddaughter, but after reading it ("my son") I didn't give it to her. It seemed "too dark" for a little one. I didn't want to have to explain things. I liked the colors and illustrations.

    Horrible Book

This book is terrible. I received it as a gift from my husband's grandma for my 4 year old son and I refused to read it to him. The undertones of the book are political, hippie, tree-hugging, coexist. Yuck, I would much rather fill my son's heart with good books that promote an understanding of the world from God's point of view. One of the lines from the book was "In a world filled with sorrow and woe, if you ask me why.....I really don't know." How stupid obviously the answer is sin. Not only that but the whole world is not filled with sorrow. What happened to being thankful for the small things in life.... a baby's laugh, sunsets, the moon, morning's.... All around this is a horrible book!!!!

    GREAT BEDTIME BOOK

AFTER REVIEWING AND DECIDING TO BY PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON, I DECIDED TO REVIEW AUTHOR PETER YARROW'S OTHER COLLECTIONS OF STORIES AND CHOSE DAY IS DONE. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. ANOTHER WONDERFULLY TOLD STORY, THAT DISPLAYS BEAUTIFUL ILLUSTRATIONS AND IMAGERY. THE STORY SHOWS INTERACTION WITH THE PARENTS AND THEIR YOUNG, AND ESTABLISHES ROUTINE AND ORDER (SOMETHING LACKING IN MANY FAMILY SETTINGS WHICH RESULTS IN CHILDREN THAT DON'T KNOW WHAT THEIR BOUNDARIES REALLY ARE.) I THINK THAT ADDING THE CD WITH THE BOOK IS AN EXCELLANT WAY OF ADDING ANOTHER DIMENSION BY INCORPORATING VISUAL AND AUDIO TOGETHER. THIS MAKES A WONDERFULLY AFFORDABLE GIFT. I PLAN ON ADDING MORE OF PETER YARROW'S STORIES TO MY GRANDCHILDREN'S COLLECTIONS.

    Christmas gift

My 6year old enjoyed the story because he could easily read along. He was singing the songs shortly after hearing them. In fact, we all enjoyed the music. Very well illustrated.

Great book for childern. Beautiful illustrations. Used in preschool before naptime. It was very calming. Loved the fact that it came with a CD. The childern loved listening to it over and over again.

    Excellent book CD combination.

    Not up to parr

If you know the words to the song, this book is good. It is well illustrated with nice character, but really does not 'flow' in just the reading. The cd was nice with it.

    Day Is Done

This isn't your run-of-the-mill story book with cute little bears, even though the bears on the cover are as cute as can be. Be aware that "Day Is Done" was a popular anti-war song in the 1960's, though the song isn't necessarily or specifically about war.

If your young child is suddenly awakening to the injustice of the world, and expressing worry or fear about it, it is a good time to cuddle up with Day Is Done.

Instead of telling the child "don't worry about that," the adult(s) in the book acknowledge that there are some serious problems in the world; that adults don't have all the answers; and that the child is actually wise and brave for being willing to see problems. Together, adult and child can face what's going on.

The CD includes the song Dona, Dona, Dona. The traditional version sung by Chad Mitchell Trio, Joan Baez and others is very sad, but this new version by Yarrow is hopeful and kid-friendly.

Beautiful pictures, beautiful music, a beautiful story that inspires hope.

Very nice to share with a young loved one

I share this book and the music CD with my young nephew. He is only 6, so it is somewhat lost on him, but he likes singing along with me and reading the words.

NOT a bedtime story for children!

I bought this book for my grandsons, thinking it would be a nice bedtime story book. It was short and had a nice picture of a bear hugging a baby bear on the cover. I got home and read it, then returned it. It was such a downer of a book, not at all what you'd like your children to read at bedtime. The message seemd to be that humans were killing the environment and that we are evil and hate nature. This was in no way written as a children's book. It was an editorial opinion.

    Not for girls

This is beautifully illustrated; however, I am returning it because it is written for a boy and I purchased it for a girl. It is disappointing that the advertisement gives no inkling that each phrase is followed by the words, "my son". This should be an integral part of the synopsis; after all, we can't take a look at it when we're buying online.
