Hold on to your fish-net stockings because the action in THE DEAD GIRLS' DANCE starts on the first page and never lets up. The story begins exactly where the first book in the Morganville Vampire series, GLASS HOUSES, left off. Claire, Eve, and Shane are in shock over what Shane's father and his buddies have done to Michael. Shane's father has returned to Morganville with one thing in mind: He wants to kill as many vampires as he can, even if he gets killed in the process. After the trauma Shane's family went through with the loss of his sister, and, subsequently, his mother, Shane and his father have cooked up a plan for revenge. Shane's phone call to his father sets the plan in motion and once his father arrives, Shane realizes what a mistake he's made. The protection Claire, Eve, Shane, and Michael have under the Founder is in jeopardy now that Shane's dad is causing problems. If they are thought to be involved in any kind of plan to kill the vampires, their protection will be removed and it will be open season on the occupants of the Glass House -- and believe me, there are plenty of vampires and people in Morganville who want to see them dead. When one of the most powerful vampires in town turns up dead, Shane is accused of the crime and sentenced to death, and it is up to Claire and Eve to find a way to save him. Readers will enjoy it when Claire's nemesis, Monica, gets a little of what's coming to her when the tables are turned and she is put in the victim role. Also be looking for relationships to blossom over the course of THE DEAD GIRLS' DANCE, both in love and friendship. We also meet a new, likeable character named Sam. He offers aid to Claire and Eve when they are in desperate need of help. The only drawback with this book is that it isn't a stand-alone story. In order to understand the reasoning behind much of the action it would be better to read the first book in the series, GLASS HOUSES. However, in my opinion, this isn't a major drawback at all since it leads you to another great book by Rachel Caine. THE DEAD GIRLS' DANCE is one of the best books I've read, and the shocking ending will leave you panting and begging for the next installment. **Reviewed by: Karin PerryShow Less

    Fun Read

I have enjoyed all the books in the Morganville Vamp series. This book was a good mix of real life (spiked drinks, college) and vamp life. I have enjoyed the series so much that I've forward the books to friends and family. It is an interesting and fun read.

    Love the Series

Rachel Caine has something going. I love the Morganville series so far. I have read Glass House (Book1) and The Dead Girls Dance (Book2) and enjoyed each the same. Each book has a new and interesting twist. Just when you think things are working out , something else stirs up. Can't wait to get the rest of the series.

    Awesome series so far!

Just went and picked up the rest of the series after reading book one yesterday. Dead Girl's Dance did not disappoint, it was even better than the first. The only problem is pacing yourself so you don't go through the whole series in 5 days.
From the first page to the last it was edgy, suspenseful, sweet, romantic and well written. The main characters are all interesting and likeable.

    First Dance

I really love this series. Caine really capture the essence of a young mind and the challenges of growing up quickly. Claire is faced yet again with the ongoing challenges found in her new town. No spoilers here :) You will want to read them all :)

    The building of a vamp-empire

The Dead Girls Dance is a flawless continuation of Glass Houses. With the combination of the residents of the Glass House and the house itself there is an unstoppable force in Morganville. The Dead Girls dance is action packed and suspenseful. Rachel Caine does an amazing job guiding you through the twists and turns in the life of Claire Danvers and her newly formed friends. With alliances being formed and deals being made all over town things are growing to a head in this small Texas town and the reader is left on the edge of their seat wounding with each turn of the page what direction that trouble will come from. Fantastic read!

    Another great Vamp Read

The Dead Girls Dance was a little more thrilling and fast paced then the first book, Glass Houses. Claire is a lot stronger and Eve shows a feisty side that was not seen in Glass Houses. This book will really have you hooked to the climbing thrill of events. The Vamps seem to be more alive in this one!

Fantastic sequel advances the story, keeps readers hooked

Morganville is as crazy as ever in this second volume of Rachel Caine's series. The inhabitants of the Glass House--Michael, Shane, Eve, and protagonist Claire--are under the informal protection of Amelie, the town Founder, but that isn't helping them much. Michael is a part-time ghost and is physically incapable of leaving his house. Shane is loyal to his Ax Crazy father who has come back to town to start a private war. Eve's homicidal brother is rumored to be back in town. Poor Claire is just caught up in the maelstrom of drama, because all the people she loves are embroiled in it, but she's developed a knack for making enemies, too, and bad vamp Oliver isn't likely to forget the trouble she caused him in the past, so with all this major trouble, it's like Claire and company are juggling flaming chainsaws. I like when that happens.

The Dead Girls' Dance is an excellent second-book-in-a-series because every idea and subplot from book one is advanced, complicated, or called into question. In book one, there were no couples, but now Eve and Michael are together and Claire and Shane are almost together, but in neither case do we see anyone swooning or making declarations of undying love. There clearly is a lot of love, both platonic and romantic, between everybody living at the Glass House, but they spend more time showing it by looking out for each other than talking about it. Another thing that changes is Claire's black-and-white view of vampires, which is challenged by Sam, a seemingly kind young vampire, and she also stops thinking of the Morganville locals as total sheep when two neutral cops, Lowe and Hess, offer their assistance. Character development is abundant. The full extent of Shane's loyalty to his family is shown, and because of it he ends up in a cage awaiting execution for murdering a vampire his dad took out. Shane is easy to sympathize with, and his ability to bounce back from tragedy is amazing, considering that he handily wins the Bad Family Olympics in this book: his sister burned alive, his mom was executed by vamps so that it would look like a suicide, and his dad is an abusive drunk who's sobered up just long enough to slaughter as many vampires as he can. Eve develops, but not always in good ways--she may have a death wish, and she's not very good in crises because she'll collapse into tears or go ineffectively psycho as often as she'll save the day. Artistic, responsible Michael is pushed to the breaking point by his limitations, and his struggles are palpable, especially when he makes a bargain that will change his life forever.

A few last things I loved: 1. Claire is poor, and it feels very college-realistic that a $3.50 mocha latte is a big expense for her. This is not a glamorous town, and our heroine probably lives below the poverty line. 2. There's some great gallows humor when Claire looks at vampire bigwig Oliver and thinks, "he killed Michael!" before it registers with her that, actually, a couple of different people have killed Michael by this point, and it's all moot anyway since he doesn't stay dead. 3. I'm fond of ice-cold Amelie. She's ancient and logical and devoid of outward emotion, but her affection for Claire still shines through the poise and apparent indifference. No matter what she does, I can't help but feel that she's ultimately a force for good, and is just hiding it behind extremely complex gambits and social experiments. 4. Cliffhanger ending!

    Thank you, Rachel Caine!

As an adult fan of the "Twilight Saga", Stephenie Meyer has been a tough act to follow. Last fall, I fell in love with PC Cast's "House of Night" series but have sadly finished all of them for the time being. I tried other vampire/immortal series (Vampire Academy, Alyson Noel's trilogy) but nothing interested me like Cast's and Meyer's take on the vampires. I was thrilled to finally find another series to enjoy. I read Glass House in one day and after receiving a Nook for my birthday, I purchased the next two novels in the series. I enjoyed Dead Girls Dance-lots of fast paced action, but a good story as well. I highly recommend this series to other fans of the genre.

The 2nd in the series that has Claire and her friends more to deal with than they could ever imagine.

The story continues where Glass Houses left off with the arrival of Shane's dad who has brought some friends with him in stopping the vampires. Things get worse for Eve when she hears that someone she obviously does not want to see may be in town. Also that Shane has been captured after the death of one of the vampires. With help from a vampire name Sam they must think of a way to help Shane. Which brings Michael to make a decision. All the while Claire finds she's invited to the Dead Girl's Dance and the reason behind it. Really liking the series and is quite the page turner. Overall a pretty good read.
