    Attention-Keep Reading!

Originally posted at: www.longandshortreviews.blogspot.com ****** Redemption seems only a remote possibility for one who would sacrifice another human being to feed his own insatiable ambition to gain new knowledge. Alexander Strathmore must survive an arduous journey plagued with seen and unseen dangerous that tests his mettle if he is to become a hero.

Country mouse Julia Woolcott has her own terrifying journey to make once she sets foot outside the safe haven her Aunt Meredith created for her long ago. It is also her ambition that lands her in a quagmire of hedonistic, depraved people who thrive on dragging the naïve, unsuspecting down to their level. Even though Julia is intelligent, highly educated, and talented, she is not world-wise and has no experience with such morally bankrupt people.

The metamorphosis of Julia and Alexander is full of tension, terror, and horrific happenings that keep the reader turning pages. However, the heart races as the attraction between them grows. They converse on the same intellectual level, but the physical attraction is primal. Their lovemaking is driven by a need neither of them truly understands.

The secondary characters, all with their own agendas, create a labyrinth full of pitfalls that Julia and Alexander must navigate successfully if they are to survive. Through heartbreaks and acquired self-knowledge, they emerge changed individuals.

Caroline Richards certainly keeps the reader's adrenaline pumping from page one. A couple of unresolved issues that involve Julia's mental and emotional well-being leave an unsatisfied feeling. However, the strength that Julia and Alexander ignite in each other makes one believe that somewhere along the way in their adventures they will find the answers they need. While The Deadliest Sin reveals the dark side of human nature, it also shows a forgiving love that encompasses every aspect of the hero and heroine's lives-attention keeping reading.

2.5 - Historical mystery romance with a plot that moves along rather quickly.  But there were some major gaping holes with the story line that took too long to be organized that took away from the enjoyment of the read.  There were also character inconsistencies that made the read a bit frustrating read - and at times almost felt like the author purposely put them there.  And the end left you wondering, there was no clear cut answers or resolutions.

Historical read with a bit of sex mixed in

Hard for me to grasp in the very beginning but was drawn into the twists of figuring out how everyone was connected in their pasts.

So glad I got this for free...
Reading this book, it feels like you start in the middle of something and missed the real beginning. I got to the end and felt like nothing was really resolved. I now realize this is the beginning of a trilogy, but this book did not inspire me to continue reading the other books. I found it hard to believe in the love story of this book because as was typical in this story, things just happened without really explaining or getting into details. If you are looking for a good historical romance, this isn't the book.

    pointless

Finishing this book I was left with the feeling that I had wasted my time reaing the book. There was no explanation for the story. The villian is after the heroine's family for some unknown and unexplained reason that the author alludes to over and over. I expected that the end of the book would tie up the loose ends and reveal what the heroine's 'aunt' did to the villain and what happened to start the fire years ago - but no. Nothing was explained. The author clearly wanted to write a love story without fully fleshing out the story. Huge disappointment. Will avoid this author in the future.
