A Delightful Italian Art Theft Mystery
For those who love Rome in its many facets, have an equally keen appreciation for an excellent detective/mystery story, and appreciate the world of fine arts, you really should grab this brief, but highly entertaining novel by Mr. Pears. He writes knowingly of Rome, has a sharp ear for dialogue, and certainly understands the almost irresistible allure that the world's greatest paintings often have on those with, and without, the means to either purchase or steal them. I read this delightful novel having just left Rome. It reminded me viscerally of the Eternal City's endless pleasures; I almost felt as though I were back walking its marvelous streets in search of skullduggery.

A Roman Cozy With Brains
A well-built mystery. All the characters have subtle and interesting motivation. The dialogue is intellegent and believable. The reader learns a lot about Rome, especially the Aventine area, and about art. Pears gets the balance between the elements of a story right. This mystery story hasn't much blood splashing around but has brains enough keep the reader up pretty late. This is part of Pears series staring Jonathan Argyll series, and equal to any of them.
