I've read almost everything available in the SHTF genre and this is perhaps the best, most logical storyline I've ever read. It is amazing just how accurate the Preface appears to be when it is set against what appears to be currently happening around the world today.
While the story is great I was surprised when I researched the amount of damage the principle weapon system was supposed to create. Since the kinetic energy weapons are supposedly the equal of a 40 megaton hydrogen bomb what the author reported is, if anything, understated.
This makes for a very scary book because so many people are completely unready for any type of disaster, either natural or man made. Tying the war into the monetary systems collapse is also ingenious.
The best possible recommendation I can give this book is that it is a good read and hard to put down. If it doesn't make you think about just how ready you are then nothing will.
