*Good for leisure time reading.
*A good plot, yet some of it seemed unbelievable, a little too perfectly fit. Still it was a good distraction from everyday life. -

Fast reading..but not the best
I used to be a big fan of mary higgins clark older books, so i havent been reading the more recent ones. After reading Deck the Halls, I thought this book was interesting; the plot was nicely developed but it wasnt as good as her old books. One thing that bothered me was that there were too many character introductions in the first few chapters of the book and it was a little hard to keep track of who was a minor or main character. Even though i thought the police investigation parts were interesting (how they went through with different leads) in the end it wasnt as suspenseful as i thought it would be because we knew who the kidnappers were and each and every little step they took. Usually in her old novels you would get little clues about who they were etc and you wouldn't know the murderer until the end of the novel. However, in this book, you know who done it from the second chapter. Another thing that kinda bothered me was the ending that was just a little too tied together because it made the ending etc too predictable. Besides all these points, i still think this book is a decent read, its very quick paced and the main characters were amusing...if you have a free afternoon, this book will help pass the time.

If you like Mary and Carol, Read This Book!
This was a great book. I think it combined both the Clark womens' great ideas into one outstanding book!

Don't buy this book if you're a clark fan
I was so disappointed with this book. it's so unlike mary higgens clark! I felt as though she was trying to cheat me. she practically make a collage of snippets of her other stories and put them into this very bad novel! very disappointing!

good novel
The novel is well-written, but not that good. The plot is good, but somehow, it's not that full of wisdom like Harry Potter series. It's just good for passing-time reading. I think they deserve a 4 star rating.

Surprisingly good
Writing is not like music, where more than one person is necessarily better. But this book succeeds. The best co-authoring since Mark Twain wrote a play with Brett Harte.

A good working mystry
California private detective Regan Reilley flies home to New Jersey to spend the holidays with her parents. Regan visits her mother, Nora a patient at the Manhattan Hospital for Special Surgery for a leg she broke tripping over a rug. At her mother¿s room, Regan also sees her father Luke, a funeral home owner, who quickly races off to attend the Goodloe funeral before going onto a dentist.
However, Luke never makes his appointments as Petey the Painter and C.B. Dingle kidnap him. C.B. felt he was cheated by Luke providing ¿ill advice¿ that cost him his inheritance. C.B. demands that successful mystery writer Nora send them one million dollars for the safe return of her spouse and his driver. Regan begins searching for her abducted father starting at the dentist¿s office where she meets local amateur detective Alvirah Meehan, who offers her help.
Mary Higgins Clark and her daughter Carol Higgins Clark collaborate on a mystery tale that unites sleuths from some of their previous solo efforts. The basis for the kidnapping of Luke seems a stretch. However, the tale will entertains readers well because the writing duo in their first pairing imbues humor into the story line while insuring their two protagonists blend well together to make an entertaining novel.
