Exhilarating story line

Though at the top of her game as a famous in demand actress, Madalyn Mae Simon decides she no longer needs to take the shallow smiles from so-called friends and terrible movies. She needs to escape far away from the phoniness of Hollywood, but wants to stay in the United States so she leaves Southern California for Alaska, but she does not even stay in Anchorage. Instead she moves to a village in the artic where she hopes to regain her mental health.------ Her harmony is disrupted when her sister Drake persuades Madalyn that camera in hand, they should explore the wildlife of the tundra. However, they run into Otar and three of his Viking compatriots who abduct the siblings for fear they will reveal to the outside world that beneath the frozen tundra is their home New Sweden besides they need breeders for the colony. Otar recognizes Madalyn as the actress he secretly has loved for years from the audience and plans to make her his wife if she refuses she takes her chance on the marriage mart auction. Madalyn begins to fall in love with her new husband, but assumes he loves the screen version and not the flesh and blood real person.------ Fans will initially be skeptical of the setting, classifying it with Santa¿s North Pole, but rather quickly through the characters and the deep social relationships readers will believe that New Sweden exists underground within the Arctic Circle. This conversion occurs because the strong cast especially the lead couple makes the background feel plausible. The exhilarating story line that never slows down once Otar realizes Madalyn (and Drake) has seen them, which leads the audience seeking the previous romantic fantasy set in New Sweden, the novella Hunter's Right, part of TIE ME UP, TIE ME DOWN. ----- Harriet Klausner

A must read

The idea of another culture living underneath our own and their need for outsider woman is a bit weird at first. But then you realize just how wonderful these men are and wish you could find one for yourself!

good book, strange plot

i liked this book. it was something new and different. a bunch of hot guys that kidnap women and take them to an underground city, who wouldnt want that? but it seemed bizzare to me at some points like they go to war but there are parts of the 'city' that are not war zones. how big are we supposed to think this city is and wouldnt the mountain just colapse if they dug it out too much. sorry my over-analytical mind at work. good read on a rainy day.

Disappointing

After several recommendations of Jaid Black's books, I was excited to find one at the local B&N. This is one of those books I wish I had borrowed from the library. The writing felt stilted and awkward, the dialogue even more so. This book either needed to be chopped down to a short story, given more pages to explain the underworld's culture and political happenings, or not written at all. The world of the 'Vikings' was confusing; one moment they were speaking in what I'm guessing was supposed to be a medieval English, and then they sounded like regular men of the twenty-first century. The characters' personalities and motivations were laughable at best. Unfortunately, I can't think of anyone I would recommend this book to. If you want to try a Jaid Black novel, I'd say look elsewhere.

Love the Viking Series!!

To each their own opinion! I first read one of Jaid Black story in a anthology and I fell in love with it. Even rushed to get most of her stories on e-books instead of waiting for B&N to ship out to me. Madalyn is tired of the crap in Hollywood so she triesss to go to a isolated part of Alaska. Her sister comes to visit and then while sightseeing some whales, Otar & some guys spot her and her sister and kidnaps them to bring them into his hidden world. I found this book very romantic and kept me reading from page 1 to the end. Even had some funny parts regarding Madalyn sister and her conspiracies. I hope Ms. Black has more releases for the Viking Series!

Just Okay

No depth to the story -- I was looking forward to trying a Jaid Black book, but this wasn't the one to try. I had to make myself read to the end.

Awful Book

I felt no connection towards the book when I read it. I felt like the writer wrote it in a hurry. Plus it was awful the way woman were treated in that book. Also the sex scenes weren't connecting to me. I felt like it was soft porn and not sexual. I also felt like the book was disgusting the way sex was portrayed that I was repulsed. Also the book hooked me in by the back cover and the guy in the front of the cover but the book itself isn't worth it reading it.

Umm ...

I feel kind of bad writing this ... but I have to tell the truth!! I must have wayy different tastes in what I like to read, but this book was too far fetched to actually enjoy. The main female character mostly got on my nerves and I totally didn't like how derogatory men were to their women. I read the excerpt on the back of the book and was sooo excited to start reading. But it only took me a few pages to realize this was not the type of book I was looking for. If you're really determined to read this book, check it out at your local library.
