    IT'S ALL GUNKED UP!!

Do you wish you could degunk your PC in just a few hours yourself? Well, you're in luck! Authors Joli Ballew and Jeff Duntemann, have done an outstanding job of writing a second edition of a book that will help you do just that, by showing you how to use a set of tried-and-true techniques. Ballew and Duntemann, begin by identifying common PC gunk creators and how to manage them so your computer keeps running quickly and efficiently. Then, they show you how to get to the mindset for degunking. The authors continue by showing you how to get rid of files that shouldn't be there. Next, they show you how to remove programs you don't use and their related files. Then, the authors show you how to organize your stuff, except in this case, your stuff will be the data on your hard drive. They continue by showing you how to clean up and tweak the Start menu, Desktop and Taskbar. Next, the authors show you how to minimize spam. Then the authors show you how to organize and perform housekeeping on your mailbase--that is, the body of real messages that actually matter to you. The authors continue by showing you how to distinguish between what you do need and what you don't. Next, they'll walk you through some of the more common complaints about SP2, such as the inability to view active content on Web pages or click Web links included in e-mails after SP2 is installed. Then, the authors show you how to degunk Windows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker. They then continue by showing you how to optimize your hard drive to get XP to boot faster, to get it to run faster, and to enhance the general performance of the computer. Next, the authors show you how to clean and degunk the Registry. Then, they introduce you to the different types of hardware you can acquire to beef up your system, including RAM and additional monitors. The authors continue by describing some advanced power tools for your PC and some awesome shareware. Next, they show you how to secure your PC. Then, the authors show you how to back up data: scheduling a task and backing up automatically, configuring and using the Backup utility, and restoring when a crash occurs. Finally, they show you how to solve some common problems by locating incompatible hardware and using the Device Driver Rollback and System Restore utilities--two excellent programs for correcting serious errors. With this step-by-step excellent guide, you can quickly learn how to clean your machine speed it up secure it from dangerous hackers, worms and viruses organize your e-mail reduce spam and, make your computer work quickly and reliably as it did the day you brought it home. The authors excel in this book by showing you how to improve the performance of your PC after a lengthy time of hard use, and the less than optimal organizational habits that have gunked it up!
