I am a long time lover of all things JD Robb. And the plot of this story had me glued to my seat and surprised by the twists and turns. But I do have one gripe.. all of the mixed metaphors by Eve. Maybe this is a quirk that has been used before, but in previous books it was rare so I didn't note it. But in this book, she had 5 or six, and within a couple chapters of each other and it made a big impression. Suddenly my Eve Dallas is a bumbling nit wit and Roarke is indulgently smiling at her mistakes. Eve isn't cute and quirky and if Roarke gave her an indulgent smile she'd smack it off his face.

I don't know if Nora Roberts writes all of these books herself or if she has help, but whoever helped or edited this book needs to be fired. Do not water down our Eve. She should never be thought of as cute or quirky and that is how I felt she was being portrayed. She's no Stephanie Plum. She's way more bada** and should remain that way.

Highly Recommend

J.D. Robb never disappoints. Some storylines are predictable, but the characters are always interesting. I always look forward to the next Dallas/Rourke escapade.

I was disappointed in this book . It didn't have enough of Roark in it . He played a very small part in this book as far the two of them together . I love all of her books, but this one , I'd only give a rating of maybe a 6 . ( scale of 1 -10 with 10 being the best) I got bored with the story line and was glad when it was all over . I'll still read every one that she cranks out, but hope the next is better !

I'm a long time fan of JD Robb's In Death series. These are books I can't put down - reading them while in checkout lines, waiting rooms and staying up till all hours to finish "just one more chapter." This book is entirely different. I slogged through the first 200 pages over a period of a couple of weeks, reading a bit and putting it down, picking it up, reading a bit and putting it down. I finally gave it up on page 202 and haven't finished the book. I'm not sure who wrote this book, but I find it difficult to believe that Nora Roberts wrote it. The biggest problem I have with this book is, in a nutshell, Eve isn't Eve. The tone and voice are all wrong. This Eve doesn't talk or act like the Eve in the first 34 books. That edge is missing. The other characters aren't much better. I also stumbled across several errors in regard to past events. Adding everything together this just isn't an "In Death" book. Such a disappoint. I sincerely hope the next book gives us back our Eve. I gave a two star rating because I still love this series.

    Flat

Found this book to be a bit flat and boring. Not "bad" but definitely not good either. Seems like everythng was a cliche. Maybe this series is done...

Have loved mosr of her books but this one missed the mark.
Not enough of the sub charscters like Nadine and Peabody.
Too much pratter over and over about the science of the mixture. This is her first book I was glad to see the end.

    Not the best...disappointing

I was disappointed in this one. I look forward to every one of her books. This one seemed too short. Seemed rushed the clues came together quickly. I believe the reader was left wanting more. Where were all the other characters we know and love? If you're too busy with othet projects don't shortchange your true fans. I feel a bit taken advantage of
