This book is the most valuable resource I have ever read, specifically addressing depression
in all stages of a child's growth and development. My 11 year old daughter has been living with
depression for over 5 years. This book addressed every question and every fear I had in helping
her deal with the disease and provided me with hope for the first time. During my daughter's
hospitalization I emailed the author out of desperation to find the right after care. She responded
and gave me great advice and tools to help me in my search. This is an amazing book written by
an amazing, compassionate and caring person.

This book is an exceptional read!!  Having been a depressed child, I can truly relate to the subjects and detailed information that Dr. Serani writes so brilliantly.  Not only does Dr. Serani share her professional experiences but her personal one as well and for me, that is what makes this book amazing. Depression in children has been so unrecognized in the past and even so in today's world, but Dr. Serani shares the symptoms as well as diagnosis and finally the many forms of treatment available for your child.  This book was so real to me, it was like I saw myself as a little child again. I also saw hope whereas when I was a child I felt helpless. Dr. Serani gives you, the parents, the hope and help you can give to your child. I would urge people to read this book as well as Dr. Serani's first book, " Living with Depression". Both are easy reads with so much great informative and REAL information.  Dr. Serani has helped me understand so much more about this mental illness then I ever thought possible.  I applaude Dr. Serani and her brilliantly written work!

I bought this because my child struggles with depression. This is a must read book not just for parents who want to learn about depression in children, but would for teachers too. The author covers the usual things, like symptoms, diagnosis and treatment - but goes further to cover holistic treatments too. The tough subjects of self harm and suicide get a chapter each, which is really helpful. What really makes this meaningful read is that the author shares her own experiences with depression personally and professionally.  I felt like I got a true take on depression. Not a sanitized or clinical view of this illness. I'll be getting Serani's first book too.
