NOT ENOUGHT HOT ROMANCE

I liked this book but I was a little disappointed I think the romance between Vicki and Antonio could have been a little hotter. The under lying passion is there but you don't see a lot of it til the end of the book. It held my attention but it wasnt a page turner.

sheer disappointment

Someone please tell me I'm not the only one who was miserably disappointed with this novel!!! What happened to character growth??? I swear, after 300 pages, all I can remember from him at all is his referring to his lover as ¿my sweet one.¿ There was absolutely no drawn out description of his character, or really where he came from, who he was, how he felt¿ I think that¿s what really bothered me. All I got out of his character was his puppy-dog like names for his lover. The only real emotion we, the reader ever get from him is towards the end of the novel, when he bangs his fist against the wall as he thinks of his lover w/another man!!! And then the female lead ¿ what was wrong with her? She drops everything just to be with him, as a vampire? And that¿s it. Why did they even bring her family into the novel [phone calls to them] because its not like the audience ever really grows to know them at all, right?! Am I right??? Plus, the author made the female lead so simplistic and so ¿traditional¿ 1800s woman, that I seriously got angry just raeding what this girl was thinking half the time. And Battista¿s pet names for her really drove me wild too- like how he said she was like a child, crying one minute, happy the next? What¿s up with that?? What century are we in? I understand the vamp was pretty old and all that, but with the female lead just accepting the comments and back and forth, I just found it to be a really dated, really anti-feminist (if that makes sense) upsetting novel. Plus the character plots seem to have a similar vein or routine to them. Duncan sounds like every other vampire slayer she's ever included in her novels and I was just like what? but if you all want to disregard that, all in all, it was an ok book. but i gotta say i was so disappointed with this one. seriously.

When red-headed women begin to die in her small town, Vickie Cavendish starts to worry a bit, since she also has titian hair, and a handsome stranger has made her the object of his attention. Yet, she can not bring herself to believe that Antonio Battista means her harm, even when she learns he is a vampire. Unfortunately, he's not the only vampire in town another, Falco, is there, and he's not nearly as handsome or kind. He's pure evil, and he wants Vickie. Antonio wants to protect all the potential victims, but especially this woman who has captured his heart. Yet, he is sure he is almost as dangerous to Vickie as Falco. To keep her safe, he will even allow notorious vampire hunters into his home, and when the time comes, let her go, though it will kill both of them in a way. ***** Though there is definitely action and suspense here, most of all, this is a lovely romance, filled with poignance and gentleness. Vickie's determination to embrace a vampire and hold onto her faith is an unusual touch, but a welcome one. It's also good to see Marissa and Grigori and Ramsey and Kelly from Shades of Grey and After Sundown. Be sure to add this to your keeper shelf. *****

A thrilling supernatural romance

In Pear Blossom Creek, waitress Victoria Cavendish works the late shift at Ozzy¿s Diner. A customer leaves with a red haired woman without eating his meal. The next day this occurs again. The next morning Victoria learns that two red haired women have been murdered both left the diner with the stranger. She is a bit concerned because she has red hair.----- That night the stranger offers to take Victoria home. Surprising herself she agrees. He explains that he is Antonio Batista and that Victoria needs to keep her door locked. She invites him inside, but instead he leaves. He stays nearby concerned that the vampire Dimitri Falco might come for Victoria.----- A third woman is dead and a new stranger arrives in town, vampire hunter Tom Duncan, who warns her to beware of the man with the yellow eyes as he is killing red headed women. That night Victoria sees yellow eyes Antonio arrives and advises Falco to leave or else. Soon the three strangers converge over Victoria. Antonio is willing to fully die for the human he loves Yellow Eyes is obsessed with adding her to his red-haired dining pleasure and Tom distrusts anyone who sups on human blood.----- The strong lead couple and the solid support cast (including the return of the heroes of AFTER SUNDOWN) make for a fine vampire romance. The story line feels more like a mystery than a horror thriller though the war of the vampires is anticipated by the audience. Though Falco¿s red headed obsession is never explained and some readers might not appreciate the simplicity of the final conflict (this reviewer thought it was on the mark and apropos), supernatural romantic suspense readers will enjoy reading this fine tale.---- Harriet Klausner
