Having finished this book moments ago, I am still reeling from how the events of the story could actually take place...here...in the USA...next year...next month...next week...tomorrow. Reader beware: the content may haunt you forever. You may spend hours studying stock market trends and eonomic predictors. That being said, the characters were amazing and hooked me from the first few pages. I will definitely be loking for more books from this author.

This was not a terrible book by any means. But it wasn't great either. I liked the concept. And the author gives it a good effort. But you can tell this was a self publish book. It is in very bad need of editing. There are a lot of useless paragraphs. Useless dialog that goes nowhere and means little. Lots of cliches in the speech of the characters. Disjointed thoughts jumbled together in paragraphs. There is too much preachy stuff at the beginning of each chapter. Here is an example of a useless segment that an editor would likely have axed: There is a whole lot of time devoted to the survivors in the compound electing a council. Several of the characters give speeches, etc. And an election is held. Then the whole concept is dropped. The guy that owns the property is still in charge and gives orders. The whole council thing is never brought up again. A useless waste of quite a few pages. Someone else said it reads like it was written by a high schooler. And this is why. It needs polish and editing. It needs to be cuts down with 150 to 200 pages of useless baggage dropped. You can tell that the author is inexperienced. Hopefully he can build and learn his craft better.

    Pretty good read

I had no expectations when I got this, but found the prepping part to be a bit unbelievable. A true prepper would not advertise to their friends and neighbors they have a ton of food and an out of the way vacation home to stay in, they would hit the road and be gone. That they had meals complete with dessert was hard to believe, but it had a decent story line that kept me interested until the end when the conflict with the neighboring group started to drag. I will probably read the second book to see if it keeps my interest, not a bad read.

    So-So

I'm the type that will finish a book if I started one no matter how bad it is..this is not the worst book by any means but the flow and the way these people are able to evade devastation go beyond stretching your mind. The best part of the book was the ending as I didn't expect it. If you are desperate for a book to read than I would say yes but I know there are is much better reading out there.

    Kind of repetitive

While I liked this book, I had two problems with it. The reasons I didn't give this novel more stars is that the novel got a little repetitive and preachy toward the end, and it ended in a cliffhanger.

Now, I'm not saying the preachy part is necessarily bad. But toward the end it got repetitive. You can only say the same thing a few different ways before it doesn't matter anymore how you say it.

As for the cliffhanger, I will look into acquiring the second book, but I don't know if I will actually buy it. The sample would have to be stunning.
