Excellent
I am doing this book with a group of people who are in the same business as I and we have trainer guiding us through each chapter. There is so much GOOD material that I'm glad we are using it as a training tool rather than just reading it. However, for anyone without a group to share with, make sure you have a highlighter handy as you read! Enjoy, I am!

Covers All the Basics
If you are looking for a clearly written book on the basics of leadership, you need to look no further. It is clearly and engagingly written. John Maxwell uses plenty of illustrations to bring his points home. Our church is using this book to train our volunteer leadership.

a reviewer
In this early work, leadership expert John C. Maxwell lays out 10 principles of leadership and team building. According to Maxwell, leaders are not born - instead, they develop their skills throughout a lifetime of practice. Perhaps because he was a minister for 25 years, Maxwell is somewhat overly fond of well-worn anecdotes and even ditties, but some readers will find that his charts, pull-quotes, bulleted lists and cartoons help make his ideas easily accessible. We recommend this book to beginning managers who want to learn leadership and to experienced ones who want to progress farther.

Encouraged by my Elder's Vision
My life shall touch a dozen lives of the things I've read and learned and before this is done. To leave countless marks of good or ill, For others to achieve this great thrill. To know all of this gives off a mature feel. To recieve, after one believes, you can achieve. And the will to care able you to want to share. This, the wish I always wished. And, prayer I always pray, Lord, may my life help others lives. Special thanks to: Minister/Elder Leroy Butler, Jr. Of the: Woodlawn Forrest Church of Christ Who saw a 'vision' and a need and decided to share. Your friend/Bren Until the End Peace! 6/8/06

everything you wanted to know about becoming a better leader
Whether you are an established leader or just getting started, there is something in here that will benefit you. By clearly defining leadership and its five levels, Maxwell starts you off with a strong understanding of the type of leader you can become, and how close you currently are to achieving it. He then brings clarity to the obstacles that may be in your path and shows you how to clear them out of the way. He helps you to set your priorities, check your integrity, learn how to initiate positive change, and become a problem solver. He stresses the importance of attitude, people, vision and self-discipline. In the end, he shows you not only how to develop your own leadership ability, but how to start developing others as well. Though sometimes choppy in its presentation, with maybe a few too many quotes and cliches, the content here is top notch. If you are a Maxwell reader, you will see repeats of this material in his other books. But then, some things are worth repeating. Larry Hehn, author of Get the Prize: Nine Keys for a Life of Victory

Potential/Leaders Always Welcome Insite and Development!
Rev. Maxwell's insite and approach to Christian and business leadership skills were a breath of fresh air. Given vivid and current examples and a step by step approach to developing within, made not only this book enjoyable to read, but also a useful tool for soldiers that I must train to develop into Leaders of Tomorrow. And yes, 'Developing the Leaders Around You,' will be the next book handed out to them.
