Jane's best friend, Ally, has always been there, and always been pretty much the same. She's never been a social butterfly or anything, but she and Jane have been through a lot at their all-girls Catholic high school, and now they've reached their senior year. One big part of being a senior at St. Teresa's is having a "Little." This means picking a freshman or new student and showing them around. On Big-Little Day, there is a forty-five-minute period when Bigs and Littles pair up, and having a good Little is definitely a status symbol for seniors.

As Jane fears, Ally does not do so well. She throws up all over the one freshman coming in her direction, and runs to the bathroom where Jane comforts her, sacrificing her own chance for a Little. Surprisingly, though, Ally does get a Little--a new sophomore girl named Lanalee.

Ally gets more than a Little. Soon after pairing up with Lanalee, she shows up at school with new hair, new clothes, a new cell phone--and a new personality. She's way more confident than before, but she's also blowing off Jane, her best friend. The new Ally is not necessarily improved.

There's more going on here than meets the eye, though. Who knew that selling your soul was actually possible? Well, now Jane and Ally do...but how do you stop the devil?

DEVILISH is a funny, fascinating, and unique take on selling your soul. It's wonderfully written, with interesting and lifelike characters that readers are sure to love and love to hate. The supernatural element in this story is nicely done, and keeps unraveling to the end, showing more and more of what's going on, even when you think you've got it all figured out. This novel kept my attention all the way through, and is sure to be a favorite of anyone who reads it!Show Less

    Too Odd

This story was to strange to be engrossing. The plot was all over the place and shallow, and the characters were unbelievable and flat. However, it was humorous, but not exactly memorable.

    Four stars

Jane and Allison were best friends, but the big-little competition, not only changed their friendship, but also their lives. Lanalee offers to be Allison's little (some school thing where freshmen are "owned" by the seniors) after an embarrassing incident in the gym. But.. she forgets to mention the fact that she's a demon, who plans to capture her soul by giving her everything she wants. Jane gets ripped apart from Allison faster than she ever imagined. With this she goes on a quest to save her best friend.
Devilish shows how a loyal friendship can be, but also how unloyal. People can be selfish and greedy. It just goes to show how people will give up their best friends, or even their soul to get what they want, or just that last moment of popularity. It also proves the advice our parents gave us when our first love breaks our heart, "People are not always who you think they are". Who knows, there could always be descrete little imps running around in human form. Overall I thought it was great book, funny yet suspensful, not to mention the love story that unfolds.

    Very Good!!!

I thought the book was very good. As unrealistic as it is, the book is good. The charecters feel, and there emotion almost feel like they are bleeding on the page. It has a sappy ending, but it's very good. Some people might count it as a romance novel because there is stalker - ish checter in the book, but I dont want to reveal anything, but lets just say things work out. The whole "Demons" consuming souls thing seemed really stupid to me, but it left a great book for interesting plot twists and whatnot. The book is a bit hard to fallow in the middle, but it was good. Maureen Johnson really knows how to write a good book. The books that I recommended are different in many ways, although they are all very good. I strongly, Strongly, Strongly Recommend THe Disreputable History of Frankie Landau - Banks. The Title sounds really boring, but it's very good. (I think that any girl right now would recommend Twilight...)

    Devilish

Devilish is a great quick read for someone who just wants a quick story of mystery and demons. This book was not one that could bring upon an obssesion like Twilight, but it's ok if you have nothing else to read.

    Good

I really loved this book. This is a great fantasy and yes it is fantasy, that's why the characters aren't realistic. That is the point of a fictional fantasy. I really liked the book and I hope she writes a sequel.

    Fun, Fast Read

I really enjoyed this book and I couldn't put it down. Jane is an interesting, resourceful character with a diverse cast of characters including a best friend who sold her soul to the devil and a demon-fighting monk. It was very amusing and suspenseful.

    Very Good

This book is so good. I'm not one for teenage girly books but this book was hilarious and I had no idea what was coming. It was unpredictable which was nice and I really recommend it to anyone who likes to read a lot.

    Read It

I am an avid reader always searching for a good read. This book met my needs. The plot is far-fetched, but it was interesting and unpredictable. All the elements to the story & all the characters were fantastic. Give it a chance, after all, a lot of popular movies are strange and far- fetched, yet we still see those. I truley loved this book, it wasn't your typical 'chick lit'- WHICH I HATE. 5 stars doesn't even tell you how great it is.

    Funny, quick read

I had a great time reading this one. Parts of it had laugh-out-loud humor that kept the story moving. Yes, it is a little far fetched, but that is why it is called fiction. For the first time in a long while, I didn't see the end coming. A fantastic read.

    i actually liked this

I didn't think i'd like this book at first but i did. The plot was bizzare, that's why i liked it. I mean it's fiction. what do you want? i mean DUH of course demons aren't running around eating cupcakes but it's a story! and I thought it was good. If you're one to really pick at things that would never happen in like a thousand years i don't know if you'd like it but if you're not then you'll enjoy this book. my friend and my favorite part was the fact that the main character's sister really was genuinely stupid.

    What is with this?

Is this the beginning of a series? Because the loose ends left at the end of the book certainly seem that way. Not to mention the plot was entirely unbelievable (yep, there are demons running around my high school too). The characters, while well developed, were not realistic people and if anyone really ate that many cupcakes, she'd be as big as a house.
