    Disappointed

I was very disappointed in this book. I am a huge Mary Balogh fan, and continue to be, but this book is not up to her usual standards. The secondary characters overwhelm the story of the main characters. I found myself skipping page after page, trying to get back to the heart of the love story. The conflict between James and Madeline brought me to tears a few times, as I felt the pain of the difficulties between them. But, then, I was left unsatisfied as their overwhelming emotional conflict was quite unrealistically "resolved" in the span of only a few lines near the end of the book. I feel very cheated by this book, as I had looked forward to James and Mad's story. Don't bother with reading this. Whatever "happy ending" you can imagine in your own head for James and Madeline is probably more fully realized than the conflict resolution in this book.

    Anti climatic

I thought this grouping of books was going somewhere and that the last book would make it all worth it. It was not. These two went beyond hatred to the point of it being completely implausible that everything could be made right in two pages at the very end. I had so looked forward to James and Mad but was sorely disappointed.

    I was impressed....

I've read a few of her books already, and i have to say it is one of the best so far. Characters have, well, character, the romance is real, not so lame and pathetically touchy like other romance novels. good book, in short.

A great love story full of passion and intrigue.

This book was very charming and full of love. The two main characters, James and Madeline, are destined to be together through their passions. They are however plagued by past transgressions.
James seduces Madeline and they have one night of passionate love-making. James feels he has dishonored her and quickly makes Madeline his bride. They love each other but can not bring themselves to utter these words out loud. They have a stormy relationship and their marriage is faced with much to be desired.
Watching all the loving couples surrounding them seems to make them feel inadequate and in much wanting. James and Madeline love each other to the depths of their hearts and their differences make for a interesting novel.
The plot keeps you interested and is an easy read. The couple faces many unhappy moments until at last they can reconcile their differences. Love is their obsession and their desire for one another is never ending.

I am a HUGE Mary Balogh fan, loved the 'slightly' series, but I couldn't believe this book was even by the same author. The plot was slow and tedious and there were so many additional characters that it was almost impossible to keep them straight. Plus, the constant love, hate, love, hate between the main characters drove me crazy!! Neither character was very appealing. I forced myself to finish the book only because I have never left a Mary Balogh book unread. Hopefully, we'll never hear from these two characters again. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

    Truly Enjoyed

I enjoyed this book as I have all the books I've read of Mary Balogh. I enjoy reading about all her characters in her books. Keep them coming is what I say.

    Unbelievable

She hates the man and he seems to hate her yet they are in love and can't leave each other. I forced myself to finish the book and gave it away to a charity.

    Long and drawn out

The two main character fight all the time fight love and lust and makes each other miserable. The lead male is unbelieveable he makes me want to walk away from him.

It was a very slow read. I couldn't really get into the book. I think it needed a little more romance for me.
