    The best book ever!

This has got to be one of the best books ever! Once I started it I could not put it down. The book made me laugh out loud and it made me shed quite a few tears as well. I was so enthralled with Dewey and the way the author made him and his story come to life, that I bought copies for all my friends and family for Christmas. This is a must read for everyone....young and old, animal lover or not.

booksbysteph says "For Anyone Who Loves Cats"

It had been the coldest night of the winter season in Spencer, Iowa. Fifteen below zero, not factoring in the wind chill. "It was the kind of cold that made it almost painful to breathe."

Vicki Myrons opened the Spencer Public Library Monday morning. When she went to pull books out of the library drop box, she heard a weird noise. Something was in the box. "It was as cold in the box as it was outside, maybe colder, since the box was lined with metal." Vicki locked eyes with a kitten that "was eight weeks old, but looked like it was barely eight days old. It was so thin [she] could see every rib. [She] could feel its heart beating, its lungs pumping. The poor kitten was so weak it could barely hold its head, and it was shaking uncontrollably. It opened its mouth, but the sound was weak and ragged."

After a few baths, the kitten was a long-haired orange tabby. "What should we do with him?" "Maybe we can keep him."

I GIVE THIS BOOK: 5 Stars

This book is the story of the life of the most famous library cat - Dewey Readmore Books.

Each chapter of this book is another story about Dewey, chronicling his life in the Spencer Library. You will laugh, you will cry and if you have owned a cat, you will understand.

This is what author Vicki Myron had to say about Dewey - "Find your place. Be happy with what you have. Treat everyone well. Live a good life. It isn't about material things: it's about love. Those are the lessons Dewey taught me. But he also taught me something else: you never know when you'll fall in love."

Until next time, live life one page at a time!

This book was a great read! I enjoyed it from cover to cover. It had some touching parts, some hilarious parts, and some educational parts. The last 4 chapters really tugged at my heart strings. It made me cry actually! I recommend this book if you're an animal lover.

Cat Lover or not this is a great book.

This book isn't about a cat. It's about the hope and identity of a small US town. It's about persistence and leadership. Dewey had it all. Quick read.

If you are an animal lover, Dewey will capture your heart, too.

I had heard of this book for many years and downloaded it onto my nook. Once I started reading it, Vicki's words just made Dewey and the town of Spencer, IA come to life in my mind. I truly loved her stories of him and how much he meant to the people that he touched. I hope that she knows that her story will live on for so many of us who are pet owners or who love animals. It was truly a blessing that he showed up in the book drop on that cold night, as he was a gift to everyone.

    A heartwarming book

I love cats, having had two special cats in my life over the years, and I love libraries, but I very rarely read non-fiction. This book jumped out at me because of the adorable cat on the cover and the book didn't disappoint. Dewey sounds like a truly remarkable cat and his story is heartwarming. I was also interested in the behind-the-scenes glimpse at the running of a small-town library and of how this community evolved over the years with Dewey being the one constant. If you like animals, then you won't want to miss this heart-warming book.

A Wonderful True Cat Story for True Cat Lovers!!

A little slow at first but once you get familiar with the characters, you can't put it down. This story is a heart-warmer from start to finish. Keep a box of tissues nearby though! I finished the book in 1 1/2 days; couldn't put it down. I just loved it!
