    I Also Recommend:

    I dont recomed it!

I finished the book, because I never leave a book unfinished. A lot of the things that are said in the book are stereotypes and the dialogues are not believable. I am Puerto Rican and I felt insulted the way we are portrayed in this story. When the Half Puerto Rican-half Dominican character was described (Usnavys) I almost stopped reading. It was stereotipical and a generalization. The name of the character it's not even a Puerto Rican name. What happened with the research on this book?

Did not live up to the hype

Although a bit humourous at times, this book did not live up to the hype. I did not find anything 'different' about this book, except for the culture. Although I enjoyed it at times, I found it very predictable and wouldn't recommend it. Wish I could give half stars; if so, I would give it 2 1/2.

    OVER-RATED

As a Latina, I could not wait for this book to come out, so I could have my own version of Waiting to Exhale. There were so many good reviews, and word of mouth that I perhaps expected too much. I found that very few of the characters were credible, and the age setting was absolutely ridiculous. All of the characters in the book are near the top of the corporate ladder, at the tender age of 26, or 27. Is this beleivable? Not in the real world. I would have liked to see more believable scenarios, not some over-stylized description of Boston. I think the author was too ambitious with her first novel. She should have taken a step back to observe real, professional Latina women in various parts of the country. Not all of us are Cuban or Chicano. I admire her effort, but it was too much. She tried to make it seem like the group of women in the book are exactly like the group of women in my social circle, but I guess that's why this book is a work of fiction. I only feel bad that this is what many non-hispanics will think we are like. After I finished this book, my first thought was, hmmmm, maybe I should write a book and get it right!

    Rather Disapointing

How exciting to read about Latina ladies in Boston, I thought. But while the author's characters were interesting and represented the wide spectrum of Latina, this book was incredibly poorly written. Searching for their own voice, these women are verbally on par with high schoolers. The main character is neither likable nor believable. I felt obligated to finish this book only because I hope that more women from Latin America will add their (hopefully superior) voices to modern literature.
