    An excellent, basic resource

This is a book I have recommending to new parents and early childhood teachers for years. It is easy to read, to the point, descriptive and prescriptive, and readily accessible to caregivers finding themselves facing behavior challenges that must be addressed NOW.

Parents of Preschoolers Need Tips, Compassion, and Humor

I did find a number of helpful tips in Wychoff's book. However, it's a bit preachy and out-dated compared to a brand new quick-read book called 'The Pocket Parent', also written for parents of 2- to 5-year-olds. I have noticed that since I have been consulting these books, I try to pause and think before I speak. I am proud of that, because I find my communication with my children to be more respectful as well as more effective in gaining their cooperation. My husband and I found it very helpful to look up a topic of concern and read some suggestions outloud together, followed by discussion for a few minutes before we go to sleep when we have a specific problem. Although there are some good tips in the Wychoff book, I prefer the compassion, humor and sanity savers in 'The Pocket Parent'. I highly recommend it for every parent that has questions about their preschooler.
