Delightful read for bibliophiles

As someone who has worked in a library as well as in retail, there is truly no limit for dumb questions you hear on the job. Truth is always stranger than fiction! My complaint is the number of grammatical mistakes-- "your" for "you're", "their" for "they're", and "over...

My complaint is the number of grammatical mistakes-- "your" for "you're", "their" for "they're", and "over" for "more than" several comes. Come on!

Having worked in a library for many years, I found the anecdotes amusing and more than true. Some people seem to think that librarians just sit around and read but there is much more to it than that. Anyone who has ever been in that line of work has a lot of stories to tell and we love hearing from others and comparing tales. This is short but amusing and worth the time it takes to read.

    They did what?!?!?

As a lifelong patron of public libraries, I enjoyed this. The funniest part was that I went to my local library before I finished reading this and found a pair of women's panties in the bathroom stall. I laughed out loud because there are sections called 'Lost and Found'. All in all, not a bad offering.

Amusing, and good for sporadic reading.

I enjoyed this, and you can't beat the price. The author has a little bit of a David Sedaris flavor in his observations, but he is fairly gentle with it. The end features a couple of lengthy discussions about literacy. I was entertained, I learned a few things, and I was given some things to ponder. The format lends itself nicely to short periods of reading.

    Interesting

This was not what I expected. Not the author's fault.

    Tongue in cheek idle thoughts

This short book is basically a series of idle thoughts in no particular order. Definitely tongue in cheek and while I found them humorous at times, it may not strike academic or public librarians the same way.

Some favorites include Dispatch 33-Not Posted Rules of the Library; Aimee Bender is Evil; and Nicholson Baker is a big fat idiot. Just for the record I don't know who Aimee Bender or Nicholson Baker is but clearly some California librarians do and after reading the articles, I was tempted to go find out.

    Mixed feelings....

Parts were interesting...parts were downright boring. One of those books you keep reading in the hopes it would get better.

    Decently entertaining

A lot of it was funny and relatable since i used to work in a bookstore. But some of it was just kinda boring.

And the last dispatch had like four typos! Totally unacceptable coming from a librarian.

    Still, it was pretty good.
