    A Modern Classic- Highly Recommended

I like tales of the paranormal/supernatural, so I picked up this book. And it was beyond my expectations - very well plotted, nicely written, and the characters seemed real, not fake or half-written. Very nice family story as well as exploring the world of the psychic/diviner. Lots of research done here, but it's presented naturally, gently, as if the author is speaking to the reader. Rarely do I want to know what happened after a modern novel ends - but I would like to know what happens next to these characters. Highly recommended to readers who like a good story well told.

I wish she'd use her rod to find a better plot...

The heroine was flaky and bland, her mother was overbearing, and her kids were disrespectful brats. The only likeable character was the heroine's father, who was slowly succumbing to Alzheimer's, because he was the only character who was really developed. The plot tried to be thrilling and mysterious, but it was mostly just confusing. The idea for this story is pretty good, but it just isn't written well.

    A strong voice

The plot was good, but what really makes this book wonderful is the voice of our narrator and heroine, Cass Brooks. She has a beautiful lyical quality that makes us follow her roundabout story the way she follows her own dowsing rods. A recommended read.

    Absolutely Loved This Book

Lyrical, mystical, grounded and coherent this book was all of these. Well-written and deeply human characters, I had to force myself to read in little bites, to draw out the deliciousness of mystery and self-discovery.
