As a Marine Grunt (Infantryman), and a Viet Nam vet, I found Mr. Guenther's work very reminiscent of the times and frustrations of that war. He evoked memories that I had somehow misplaced, and, strangely enough, found not to be as disturbing as they once were to me.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. The book, as a whole, is an accurate portrayal of the type of combat and men who waged the war in "The Nam". I was particularly touched by the characters of "The Hump", a Marine Colonel who had risen from the ranks, and "The Gunny", a career enlisted Marine. These men personified "The Old Corps", combat veterans from wars prior to Viet Nam, and a number of whom I met, as the Marine Corps transitioned into a new era.
I truly recommend Mr. Guenther's writing, and have purchased his other books.
