Very difficult to read. 156 pages

Maybe it's a book for males, for this writer's style or the '50's setting but this was hard to stay with...even though I did finish it. (dw)

I really enjoyed this book. Written in the fifties, it has all the appeal of a good old fashioned who-done-it with some nice twists and turns and an unexpected ending.

A decent way to spend a few hours

This is exactly what it professes to be-a decent way to spend a few hours. The story revolves around a rich kid in early 1950s Los Angeles who has fallen in with gangsters. People wind up dead in his apartment. The police want to connect with his acquaintances, who are mobsters and his girlfriend wants him to get a decent job and get married. The poor guy doesn't know which way to turn. He eventually straightens it all out, but not necessarily in the ways he anticipated.

Not great literature, but it doesn't pretend to be. If you are looking for a pleasant read to while away a few hours, you could do worse.

Different type of read, tho well written. I had trouble identifying with the time-period and its lingo. Characters are 3-dimensional. Very readable.
