Is there such a thing as International English?
I recently found this book accidentally as I was looking for resources on spelling and writing in "international English". I ended up using this book as a main resource for my project in my graduate class. Axtell does a great job of going over almost every last detail about the similarities, differences, nuances and "taboos" of English around the world. All English speaking countries don't speak the same language! Axtell goes beyond the usual comparisons of American and British English to include English used in other British Commonwealth countries or former British colonies. He has an easy writing style that makes it easy to understand, and makes it easy and enjoyable reading. I highly recommend this book for people who are looking for a good study on the English language around the world, enjoy reading about cultural differences, or just enjoy a good, user-friendly history of linguistics book. This book is definitely not for scholars, students or professionals only; it is a great informational book that could easily be non-fiction pleasure reading as well. Was this review helpful?
