I have studied 3-4 languages, but never formally learned Spanish, so it's not as if I have no aptitude for languages. However, I found that the lessons on these CDs go by much too fast to absorb. The program lulls you into a false sense of security with the first CD (the "on ramp to Spanish"). On that CD, they take things one step at a time and repeat new words and phrases until you have learned them. But once you move on to the 2nd CD, they only present each phrase or new concept once and do not allow enough time for you to repeat after the model unless you are already fluent in Spanish. Also, the book is pretty useless since it only includes about 5% of what's on the CDs. A much better option, if you are looking for an audio-only method, is Pimsleur's Conversational Spanish. The Pimsleur CDs weave in the repetition a beginner needs, but in an entertaining way, since you are having conversations with native speakers in the process. I'm using the Pimsleur in the car and don't find it too distracting to listen and respond to while I drive.
