Eye-opening experience into the lives of a broken family. After reading the inside flap and purchasing the book based on the limited information provided, was surprised by the depth of the author's torment. She does an excellent job at drawing the reader into the nightmare that was her past. It's a must read for anybody who thinks they came from a dysfunctional family.

    Excellent!

This memoir reads like a novel. It is both funny and heartbreaking...

    I Also Recommend:

    Very interesting memoir.

I read this book over a weekend at the cabin. It definitely held my interest, though seemed to wane a bit at the end. This might extend from how disturbing the ending is or the author still int the process of coming to terms with what happened to her and her family.
It never fails to amaze me when people write about their young lives- the weird things that stand out to each person is fascinating and this authors childhood is no diferent. If only as parents we had the ability to know what they were thinking and why... it is amazing to imagine how differently a life could turn out.

    it was ok

this book was ok, kind of like eating plain rice when your hungry. doesnt taste all that bad, isnt unpleasent, but not something you look forward to eating. it was quite a "bland" book with no real thrills or anything, just a journey through someones life and thoughts, kind of like reading the diary of the avarage american. not something i would reccomend to friends or family

Hard to put down once you start reading.

I enjoyed the book and it was a compelling story. Having grown up in that small town, nearly all the people and places were familiar to me. However, Monica has completely destroyed her family.
