    She's done us proud

To my heart and mind, there are two singers who represent Canada - Gordon Lightfoot and Anne Murray. While Lightfoot has written and performed songs that capture the Canadian personality, Anne has presented herself on the world stage as a proud Canadian and built a significant career her way, which included remaining in Canada. There are songs so tied to Anne's voice that I was wondering how a duet format could ever enhance. Takes a lot of courage to reinterpret songs like "You Needed Me", "Danny's Song" and "A Love Song" but Anne bravely steps into her proven territory and shares the spotlight with today's top female vocalists. The most successful pairings, in my opinion? k.d. lang on "A Love Song" is worthy of serious radio time. This song is now a classic reborn. Shania Twain's contribution on "You Needed Me" lends a heart-breaking tone to this beautiful song. Olivia Newton-John on "Cotton Jenny" allows the twangy, country feel of the song to show its face. Anne's daughter Dawn offers the most gentle vocals of all on "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do". Some of the other pairings are curiousities. Carole King's vocals on the song she wrote "Time Don't Run Out on Me" really do not help the song regain any relevance. Nelly Furtado on "Daydream Believer" sounds as if she's wondering how she ended up in this situaton. But we can't ignore the fact that these guest vocalists assembled to record with a singer they admire, and a career they respect. And for this reason, Anne has done us proud, very proud.

This has become my favorite CD

I have loved Anne Murray's voice since I first heard her on the radio (and this was when the "good music" was on AM!), own several of her LPs as well as CDs and once relished her performance live in the 90's (we had seats in the third row and my husband swears Anne made eye contact with him). When I saw that she had teamed up with other excellent women vocalists, I had to check out the recording. I fell in love with it the first time I listened to it. There were some of my favorites of Anne's -- Danny's Song, When I Fall in Love Again, Could I Have This Dance -- and some I'd never heard -- Another Pot O'Tea, Song for the Mira, Nobody Loves Me Like You Do. On every song the two singers' voices blend or contrast or support each other, whatever is needed for that particular piece. The production is outstanding. Some of the songs make me smile, some make me cry and I wind up singing along to most of them. I especially love Time Don't Run Out on Me with Carole King (another favorite singer/songwriter), Cotton Jenny with Olivia Newton-John and Nobody Loves Me Like You Do with Dawn Langstroth (who was new to me). There's also an exceptional live recording of Anne and Celine Dion, from a PBS special I remember seeing, where Celine surprised the audience by joining Anne in "When I Fall In Love," which both recorded and has hits with. This is really a terrific CD and I have already given two as gifts.

    I Also Recommend:

    Duets: Friends & Legends

For any person who enjoys the distinctive sound and music of Anne Murray, this is a "must have" for your collection. It is a soothing rendition and collaboration of familiar songs and talented vocalists, mixed with the traditional, unique sound that is Anne Murray. Featuring vocal legends, such as Dusty Springfield, Olivia Newton John, and Carole King and intermixing some of today's most prolific artists....Amy Grant, Celtic Woman, Martina McBride, Celine Dion (just to name a few) this CD is destined to be a classic.

    Super!

If you are an old fan of Anne Murray's then you will like this album as much as I do! Not only do you get Anne Murray singing her old favorites but you also get fantastic singers like Nelly Furtado, Emmylou Harris, k.d. lang, and Celine Dion combining their vocal power with Anne's. The CD booklet that comes with it contains interesting comments from Anne and each singer on what the song means to them and how they went about recording it. Super!

    Shakes the Soul

Anne Murray's distinctive throaty, deep and yet female voice, will be playing in the background when you check in with Saint Peter in the Hereafter...

    Simply the best!

About the time you think an artist can't improve on perfection, they go and suprise you. I fell in love with her voice in 1970. She is a positive role model to many of today's artist's. She's professional & prepared in everything she does. This album is full of great songs with different twists. My favorite is Nobody Loves Me Like You Do with her daughter Dawn. But the duet with Dusty Springfield is amazing!!! You can tell that all the ladies on the album are thrilled to work with Anne. Whether you're a die hard Anne Murray fan like me or new to her music, this record is a keeper. Happy listening!

    Duets - Friends & Legends

The Duets are beautiful and for those of us who have loved you for so many years, the duets are overdue. Celine Dion's performance, although live rather than in the studio was good also. Anne, it is quite a coup to get Sarah Brightman as one of your duet partners and I'm pleased that you were able to do that!
