Far Too Many Errors to be Useful
As with 'Chemistry Demystified,' which was also written by this author, 'Earth Sciences Demystified' is filled with errors and typos. In the first chapter alone, I found several errors in both the text and the accompanying diagrams. For example, 'lithosphere' and 'mantle' have multiple definitions, all of which contradict each other. There also seem to be test questions for which there is no correct answer given. And those are only the errors that I noticed- someone with advanced training in the field would likely find many more. The writing is very poor and has a juvenile feel. I would strong advise against purchasing this book.

Understanding The World Around Us
This is an outstanding book to reacquaint the uninitiated on a wide variety of earth sciences. I loved science in school, but that was a long time ago...and the world, or at least science's view of it, has changed significantly since that time. Now, I know a lot more about a lot of different things. I imagine this book would be extremely valuable for the high school or college student required to take earth sciences as an elective. The book is well planned and executed. It's a very worthwhile, stimulating and enlightening read. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
