This is a prequel to Ender's Game and is an excellent addition to the Ender universe. It also functions well as a stand alone story that should appeal to both fans and those unfamiliar with Ender's Game. A compelling story with realistic, intriguing characters. I'm already looking forward to the next installment.

    Enjoyable read

A prequel to "Enders Game" which I read years ago, the characters are well developed, the scenario is consistent with envisioned technology of the time. I found it a good read in and of itself and stands alone as an excellent book.

If you read Ender's Game, you have to read this.

I read Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow and found them very enjoyable. When I seen that there was a prequel out, I had to read it. Things that were briefly touched in the Ender's books get told thoroughly. I've also read the second book, Earth Afire. Or to be more precise, I devoured them.

    Suckered again!

Mr. Card has done it again--made me feel cheated with "Earth Unaware", as he did with the final book in the "Bean" series. To begin with, it took 50 boring pages of story line before even touching on the purported subject I was led to believe it was all about. Those first chapters did not even read like they were written by Mr. Card (and probably weren't, given that a co-author graces the book's spine and title page). Getting past page 52, I do see Mr. Card's style of fast-paced- action style of writing. Unfortunately, the whole middle of the book--accounting for more than half of the page count--is pure trash science fiction; it can't even be generously classified as fantasy, either. Even more unfortunately, this book doesn't get any better as it supposedly approaches what I expected would be its climax. If this was the first Orson Scott Card book I had ever read, I would never have the pleasure of reading the eminently interesting "Ender's Game" and the follow-up "Bean" series, except, of course, that cited final disastrous volume in the series. I will certainly not be reading any sequels to this series.
