New, Original Material
Cincotti's first, full foray into recording original material is a strong effort. Many of the songs have a solid message, if somewhat repetitive throughout the album. For fans of Cincotti's previous albums, which included several renditions of standard material, this may be somewhat of a disappointment; however, in an attempt to reach new fans, Cincotti's effort is strong. Was this review helpful? Although his strength seems to reside in ballads, Cincotti makes several attempts to "move the crowd" with up-tempo pieces; however, his "meat and potato" pieces are represented as well... as with the powerful "Lay Your Body Down (Goodbye, Philadelphia)".
Ideally, on Cincotti's next full-album effort, he'll include a well-balanced mix of standards (perhaps from the catalogs of such artists as Johnny Hartman, Chet Baker, etc.) as well as original songs of his own.
Still, for his first full album of original material, Peter Cincotti has again provided a pleasant album for music lovers to enjoy.
