Never head for the wilderness without DGM
One of the highlights of my first horsepacking trip to the wilderness included nightly gourmet feasts prepared by the authors, Reba and Marybeth, from their book, Easy Dehydrated Gourmet Meals. After a long, eventful day in the saddle, these light-weight dehydrated meals were extremely easy and convenient to prepare plus each provided generous servings packed with flavor. No fuss, very little clean-up and a different international flavor every night - what more could you ask for? I would recommend this book to assist users in becoming more responsible when they recreate in our natural spaces. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. a must-have for backpackers or horse packers!
I've prepared the meals and I've eaten with Reba out on the trail. This book is a great value for anyone who packs into the back country and wants to avoid the expense and heartburn associated with commercially available dehydrated meals. These meals are easy to prepare and delicious at the end of a long day of outdoor adventure. The book is easy to follow and will suggest other recipes for those who like to experiment. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn to pack their own food for the backcounty, or just to keep on hand for emergency use. These recipes are TASTY!Was this review helpful? Sick of breakfast/protein bars from packages while hiking/camping/etc???
This little gem has both methods and recipes for creating meals that are good enough to eat at home, yet can be packaged within a zip-lock sandwich bag and carried completely dried in your pack while camping/hiking/???Was this review helpful? Any time you need light-weight food (breakfast, lunch and dinner included) these make-ahead from-scratch recipes are delicious and enough to feed several hungry hikers. One-pot meals ... add boiling water, top with a lid, and wait to stir ... viola! your meal is ready and tastes like real food!
Includes many recipes tried on actual camping back-country trips. After you get the hang of these examples, a person might try dehydrating their own favorites. On the other hand, there's plenty here to keep trying the tried-and-true ones without changing one's own creativity.
Know a hiker/camper/hunter who has everything??? Try this as a gift!
