Another nice addition to your Robert E. Howard library!

Having read many of Howard's stories elsewhere, I purchased this edition because it presents so many of his stories and fragments with minimal or no editing. Most (if not all) of the editing is grammatical in nature and listed in "Notes on the Original Howard Texts" at the end of the book. We get to see Howard's stories as he wrote them without them being sanitized for today's sensibilities. Howard was a product of his time and it can't hurt to remember where we were and how far we have come. Even with his all his warts, Robert E. Howard was a great storyteller. The illustrations provide a nice accompaniment to the stories.

Robert E. Howard (1906-1936) was the most prolific writer and poet of all time! El Borak is one of my favorite REH characters! REH wrote mainly for the Pulps such as Weird Tales and Adventure. He created so many famous characters such as Conan, Kull, Bran Mak Morn, Solomon Kane, Lord of Samarcand, Red Sonja, Dennis Dorgan, and more. He wrote westerns, boxing stories and was an accomplished boxer himself, terrific poetry, horror stories, and so much more. He had a terrific sense of humour and of fairness as you will see when you read these stories. If you haven't read Beyond The Black River or Red Nails get REH's Best of. You'll be glad you did as these are two classics. Check out the REH Foundation the Conan Forum for updated information and chat with fellow REH fans. Find out what everyone is talking about? You'll be glad you did!

    I Also Recommend:

    Pure Adventure Fullfillment

A supreme example of adventure storytelling without the assistance of the supernatural. For anyone looking for historical adventure fiction this is a must own. Vivid and imaginitively sensual, a great introduction to Howards work, especially for readers unsure about sword and sorcery tales for which he is most famous.

    fascinating collection

These thirteen tales consist of eight starring Francis "El Borak" Xavier Gordon, three headed by Kirby O'Donnell, one very short story led by Steve Clarney and one untitled other El Borak. The tales take place in Asia with the Irish-American heroes battling against the odds at a time when imperialistic Europe tries to retain control of India and Afghanistan, etc. Although the "Wild East entries are fun to read especially those of Texas gunslinger El Borak who risks his life repeatedly for his Asian friends, much of the background seems ancient; in fairness Depression Era rationalization of the world comes clear. Still Fans of Howard will appreciate the heroic escapades of the three expatriate Americans in a vividly described harsh desert and mountainous landscape; but especially the actions of El Borak who comes across as the most realistic and believable than the other two adventurers.
