Truly a must read. Esmeralda Santiago has captured my heart. I was raised in a home where a man is the hispanic "macho." I myself married into the same. My own daughters also have married into the same. The author really knows how this will continue to pass on through generations. Love, love this book!

This book is excellent. I read it over the summer and was amazed at how wonderfully descriptive Esmeralda Santiago was. I almost felt as though I was on the island of Vieques. The story is about America, and her escape from a violent relationship. How she came to the United States and started over. How when free from the constant threat of domestic violence, she was able to dream again and flourish. Esmeralda Santiago has done it again! Bravo! Was this review helpful?
