This essential book taught me how to embroider when I was 17
I am not exaggerating when I say that I learned how to embroider from this book alone. Montano includes excellent explanatory notes and clear diagrams to all the stitches, and - amazingly - diagrams for left-handers! Good variety of stitches are explained, and there's even special sections on knots and stitching with ribbons. A beautiful book which easily lies flat. Some background knowledge of handsewing or quilting may be helpful (ie how to thread a needle), but otherwise, this is a great book for beginners or those who wish to refresh their needle-working skills. I consider this my 'How-to' book, and my copy of 'Treasury of Crazyquilt Stitches' by Carole Samples to be my book of inspiration.
