I titled my review undecided because that is how i feel. I picked up the Book Elphame's Choice by P.C. Cast and thought it was going to be like the House of Night series. First off, this is for the new Harlequin Teen series and at times I didnt see how this book could fit into the teen category. There were more than a few veiled references to sex, or excitement in this book so I wouldnt recommend it to anyone under 15. The hardest part for me was really understanding the whole fantasy realm she lays out in the book. I normally am not into the whole fantasy romance category, but I had high hopes for something by one of the Cast's. Putting that aside, it does grip you, and make you want to finish the book, and there is enough of a teaser at the end to make you want to pick up the next book in the series next year. If this genre is your fave, then by all means get it because it will hit all the right places. If you think this is some more vampire hotness from the Cast's....sadly that has to wait till the new House of Night hits the shelves this week.

Elphame's Choice
I adore this book and the author P.C. Cast. This book offers Romance, adventure, loyalty, family love, fantasy, and a beautifully delivered romance plot. If you love Romance that will leave you breathless and in shock, i suggest you read this book.

I don't really know about this book. I guess i could just never get over the fact that she had a goat lower half. It just ruined my entire envisioning of the book throughout. Other than that it was wonderful, filled to the brim with adventure and love. But if you're one to make a movie in your head with a book make sure you can take a heroine that is not fully human looking.

beautiful adult romantic fantasy
Ephame is the offspring of a mating between a human and a centaur; from the waist up she is human, but from the waist down she is covered with brown hair and has cloven hoofs. Her genes make her stronger and faster than her human counterparts. Although she loves her mother, she needs to make a life for herself. She intends to return Castle MacCallan to its former glory and become the new clan chieftain. Centaurs and humans welcome her as the rightful owner.---- Ephame meets the half-human half Fomonian Lachlan; they fall in love even though their races are enemies ever since his invaded Parthelon, destroyed Castle MacCallan, and kidnapped human women because their own are sterile. Lachlan believes that Ephame is the person that the prophecy foretold would lift the curse of the hybrids and allow the evil Fomonian side to vanish. He also fears the cost to his beloved is too high, but his race plans to insure the fulfillment of the prophecy.---- EPHAME'S CHOICE is a beautiful adult fantasy about two ¿Romeo and Juliet¿ hybrids falling in love with the backdrop of cross species hatred to keep them apart. Ephame always felt like the odd person although her neighbors and family respect her. When she strikes out on her own she gains the self confidence that she lacked and quickly becomes a leader worthy of ruling. Her mate is her equal prepared to ostracize himself amidst his people to help his beloved. Together they cast the keeper shelf spell on readers.---- Harriet Klausner

I thought it was ok. Not the worst but not the best. I hoped it would be like the house of night series but i was wrong. But it was ok

I Could Not Set This Book Down.
I pick this book up unsure of how I would like it. By the second chapter,I could not set it down and read it in 2 nights. The best thing about the book is how P.C. Cast wrote so well, that I felt what the characters were feeling.

P.C doesn't disappoint
A continuation from the other books in her divine series this books takes place 125 years later after the story of Rhiannon, Shannon Parker and the Famorians war. Elphame, her brother Cuchulainn,Brenna and Brighid are all believable characters. I love how P.C makes you feel like you are in this story. I love that from the moment that I opened the book I really felt as thought I was Elphame. I felt as though I was living her life. I really love the twist on the story and how it covers the element of prejudice and how even though the most kind hearted of people can be subject to scrutiny as well as the judgment of what their forefathers had done before them. I really loved that I could relate to this book. I have to say that over all I loved the divine series so much, but I love this one more... I really couldn't wait to read Brighid's quest. Over all wonderful book!!!! I would recommend it to all my friends.

Elphame is the Chosen of the Goddess Epona. Half centaur, half human she leaves the luxury of her mother, the Goddess Incarnate's, home and travels to a crumbling castle, once the site of slaughter, determined to revive the site and find her own place in the world. What she finds is the half breed descendents of the Fomorians, the demons who destroyed the castle in the first place, and one of them she recognizes as her soulmate.
Not a horror, or even dark fantasy, novel Elphame's Choice will reach some audiences, particularly those who enjoy the kind of fantasy found in the Twilight books. Some readers however will find the pace slow and repetitive, the prose purple and the characters one kind of perfection after another. There's little tension here, little question that all will end well, and little action that explains why the characters deserve the adoration and love they seem to get. But there's also no question that this kind of fantasy has an audience among teens and adults alike. As for the place this novel deserves in a public collect--there are certainly worse books already to be found on the shelves, but there are more enchanting choices on the lists as well. -
Not too good.
I was a fan of P.C. Cast because of the House of Night series, which, has been going downhill. I was HOPING that this would have a bit more skill and feel more real. I was WROOONNGGG. The romance was like a rushed add-in, and the characters randomly fell in love. It was easy to guess what would happen, except for one tiny twist. I didn't feel anything for the characters, no sympathy, nothing. Though there was an obvious attempt at giving the characters depth, the felt pretty 2-D and boring. Like most of Cast's characters, Elphame was the annoying sort of perfect, but a complete idiot.

My Favorite Book for the Past few Years
I think I first read this book back in 2006. Since I first read it it has been my favorite and it's a shame I haven't written a review for it until now. This really is a good book and if you're considering reading it I'd highly suggest it. The only thing I find that this book is not portrayed as is a 'vampire book'. There are characters that are basicly vampires though the book changes the name and deffinatly doesn't use conventional vampires. Even if you're not into vampires this book will still be good. I leant it to a friend who wasn't into them and she still loved it. It's more of a bonus for those who do. I loved all the characters personally, and the book wasn't confusing to read which is a big plus. I've yet to find a book that measures up to it and if I do I'll be sure to come back and edit this review. Until then...

a review
I picked up this book not really knowing if I'd like it or not. Having now finished it, I can say I loved it. The characters were really well rounded and they made me laugh several times. The story is fairly short and I didn't think the ending was very good, but it leaves room for a second book. I thought it was a great fantasy book.
