Whether you are looking for the complete guide to read cover to

Whether you are looking for the complete guide to read cover to cover or you just want the most comprehensive reference book at your finger tips, this book was designed with you in mind.  The author takes you through everything you need to know in order to setup the ESA and even if you already have one setup, you may just find some additional useful tips and tricks (ie. hidden/undocumented commands).  Unlike most technical reference manuals that just tell you what options are available, the author has taken the time to provide insight into how the options and features effect the functionality of the configuration. Not only has the author provided a comprehensive manual for the ESA itself but also great insight for anyone wanting more information on email security in general.

If you are giving any thought at all to adding an ESA to your security arsinal, you would be well advised to add this book to your reference library.

Are you an Email administrator that is using or considering ESA? If you are, then this book is for you! Author Chris Porter, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that will show you how to setup and configure advanced email filtering rules, deployment architectures and integration with external systems. Porter, begins by providing an introduction to the Cisco ESA and the AsyncOS software; their history and features; and, an overview of the problems it is designed to solve. Then, the author gives an overview of all the ESA features and the basic connection and setup process. The author also covers each stage in detail of messages accepted and delivered by the ESA pass through the filtering pipeline step by step. He continues by covering the main administrative interface of the ESA: the web user interface. Next, the author discusses the command-line administrative interface. Then, he covers other monitoring and information services available on the ESA. The author also covers LDAP directories and the ESA features that make use of your directory information. He continues by covering anti-spam, antivirus and Outbreak Filters, the chief security engines of the ESA. Next, the author shows you how to automate administrative tasks from remote systems using the CLI and WUI. Then, the author covers the XML file format used by the ESA for saving and restoring configuration files. The author also focuses on the two custom rules engines available on the ESA: message and content filters. He continues by focusing on all the possible network models you can use to deploy an individual appliance. Next, the author explains why every ESA deployment will involve multiple appliances; and, the challenges and solutions that are expected with each one. He also covers best practices for ESA deployment and configuration. Finally, the author covers advanced major topics that have emerged in the last few years, and the ESA approach to the challenges they create. The goal of this most excellent book is to contribute to a more thorough understanding of Internet email, its inherent problems, and the solutions that the ESA product provides. Perhaps more importantly, this great book provides information for every area of functionality on the ESA, and whether you should configure.
